Report: Fresh candidate emerges to become Tiger Woods' new caddie
John Wood has emerged as the leading candidate to become Tiger Woods' full-time caddie in 2024 as the 15-time major champion plots another comeback.
Judging by Tiger Woods' strolls in the Bahamas and Florida before Christmas, it appears we will see more of the 15-time major champion in 2024 than we have in recent years.
Woods, who recently celebrated his 48th birthday, managed to comfortably walk four rounds at the Hero World Challenge.
When he competed at the PNC Championship with his teenage son Charlie, he switched between using a cart and walking.
It was there Woods declared he will, or is at the very least, aim to play at least once a month from February.
Woods' season appears likely to start at Riviera when he hosts the Genesis Invitational on the PGA Tour.
One hot topic of conversation is who will be his permanent caddie after long-time bagman Joe LaCava was given Woods' blessing to carry the sticks for Patrick Cantlay.
In the short-term, it seems that honour will go to one of Woods' pals and confidante: Rob McNamara.
McNamara, Woods has previously attested, is a second set of eyes for his swing. He's also the executive vice president of TGR.
But another candidate has recently emerged to carry Woods' bag, according to the Associated Press.
That would be John Wood.
Wood is an experienced caddie in his own right, having spent more than 20 years carrying for the likes of Hunter Mahan, Chris Riley, Matt Kuchar and another one of Woods' close friends: Mark Calcavecchia.
Wood now plies his time as an on-course reporter for NBC Sports' golf coverage but could reportedly be dividing his time between that role and working for the hall of fame golfer.
