PGA Tour put on full blast over 'petty' behaviour
The PGA Tour have finally acknowledged Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are taking part in an exhibition match in Las Vegas against Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau.
The PGA Tour has finally acknowledged two of their star players are taking part in an exhibition match against two LIV Golf recruits.
Rory McIlroy and player of the year Scottie Scheffler are facing off against Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau in Las Vegas later today.
Until now, the breakaway tour has been the only circuit that has promoted the contest, billed as The Crypto dot com Showdown, in Las Vegas.
The PGA Tour's social media team threw up a graphic on 17 December, imploring their followers to catch McIlroy and Scheffler in action.
But there was no mention of the former PGA Tour stars.
Take a look here:
Unsurprisingly, the snub was met with a unanimous response.
Here's a selection of comments:
"Who are they playing against?"
"Are they playing against each other, or are there others involved?"
"Who else is playing? This is pathetic. What an embarrassment."
"You guys just conveniently forget they're playing Bryson and Brooks?"
"Wow, you are so late to the party. Pathetic."
"Are you guys seriously this corrupt?"
The Showdown begins at 6pm ET (11pm GMT) on TNT.
McIlroy and the World No.1 are narrow favourites to beat DeChambeau and Koepka.
The contest will be played over 18 holes, with three different formats being adopted.
McIlroy and Scheffler had to convince PGA Tour officials to allow them to play this match.
The Northern Irishman told reporters that the established Tour weren't happy but they finally gave the green light.
The trash talking began early, with DeChambeau daggering McIlroy about his implosion at the U.S. Open as the players took to the range.
