PGA Tour member Ben An appeared to divide opinion after he claimed Scottie Scheffler's 2024 was as good as 'any' of Tiger Woods' best seasons.

Scheffler romped to his ninth victory of 2024 at the Hero World Challenge in Albany.

The 28-year-old hit a sensational final round of 63 to win by six strokes from his good buddy Tom Kim.

With the feat, the World No.1 equalled the aforementioned Woods' haul of nine wins in a calendar year.

Woods won nine times in 2000, including three major championships, taking his legend to another level.

In seven of Woods' victories, he won by an average of 6.57 strokes. Overall, he was 160 under par and averaged 67.33.

Woods was only over par once and even par twice. On 10 occasions, he also shot 65 or better.

This year, Scheffler won the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Players, The Masters, RBC Heritage, the Memorial, Travelers Championship, Tour Championship.

He also won gold at the Olympic men's golf competition.

No wonder there are comparisons to peak Tiger.

But is Scheffler's season as good as any of Tiger's best?

An took to X after Scheffler's latest win on Sunday, writing: "I don't care what anyone says, Scottie this season was as good as one of Tiger’s best seasons on Tour."

It's fair to say that An's thoughts were met with a mixed reaction.

He later clarified he wasn't suggesting in any way that Scheffler is as good as peak Woods.

"But Scottie's 2024 definitely goes into one of the best," he added.

"If you really know golf, when you look at his golfing stats (not winning or tournaments) it's a phenomenal season.

One user reminded An that Vijay Singh's 2004 season was likely better.

Singh also won nine times, hit 18 top 10 finishes and managed to dethrone Woods atop of the world rankings.

'Enough said,' the user wrote.

"Bro, no. Tiger won three majors."

"You absolutely do care what other people say."

"Do you think Scottie this year was better than Tiger in his prime? Scottie's competition is far stronger than Tigers was"

"Not even close Let's start with 2000 And a lot of the best players missing from the PGAT this year."

"In terms of on course stats, yes. In terms of actual wins/majors it's not even close to Tiger."
