Tiger Woods has topped the PGA Tour's Player Impact Program (PIP) for a third time in four years after being crowned the winner in 2024.

The latest update to come out of the PGA Tour was provided by Sports Business Journal.

Woods, who recently turned 49, played in just five official PGA Tour events in 2024.

He withdrew during the second round of his Genesis Invitational and then missed the cut in three of the four majors.

Of the one major cut he made at The Masters in April, Woods went on to finish dead last in 60th.

Woods then returned to competitive action for the first time since bowing out of The 152nd Open at Royal Troon in July when teeing it up alongside his son Charlie, 15, at the PNC Championship in December.

Team Woods were narrowly defeated to the title in a playoff by Team Langer.

The PGA Tour reportedly announced its 2024 PIP rankings just before Woods' Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas in early December.

But the list was leaked to Sports Business Journal during The Sentry in Hawaii over the weekend.

According to SBJ, 15-time major champion Woods topped the PIP for 2024, with runaway World No.1 Scottie Scheffler in second and Rory McIlroy in third.

Woods pocketed $10m for finishing first.

Scheffler earned $8m and McIlroy $4.5m.

McIlroy topped the PIP in 2023.

That was the only year that Woods failed to win the PGA Tour's PIP.

Scheffler finished second in the PIP for the first time in his career.

That was after a monumental seven-win season on the PGA Tour in 2024, along with two additional titles at the Olympic Games and Hero World Challenge.

Scheffler of course famously got arrested during the US PGA, which certainly contributed to him receiving plenty of air time with not just sports media publications.

The PGA Tour's PIP criteria is based on the following:

  • Internet Searches
  • Earned Media
  • TV Sponsor Exposure
  • General Population Awareness
  • Golf Fan Awareness

The PIP prize money was slashed in half by the PGA Tour for 2024.

That was after the circuit confirmed it was introducing a new Player Equity Program (PEP) for 2025.

Under the PEP, all PGA Tour members are eligible for recurring equity grants.

The program will provide a recurring $100m annual grant over the next five years.

This comes at a time when the PGA Tour is about to officially confirm a commercial merger with LIV Golf's bankrollers, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF).

According to the PGA Tour's latest memo about PEP, the grant will be divided among "approximately 20 top performers each year based on last three-year performance, last year performance, as well as measurement criteria that have been used in the Player Impact Program."
