Cameron Young has been ripped by golf fans and analysts after losing his head and snapping his driver on the 14th hole en route to coming up short yet again for a first PGA Tour title at the Rocket Mortgage Classic

Young, 27, was bang in contention for his maiden PGA Tour title at Detroit Golf Club in Michigan.

He started the day just one shot behind.

But clearly frustrated after missing countless putts in the final round, Young saw red as he sent his tee shot way left at the par-5 14th.

After hooking his tee shot into the left rough, Young bent his driver shaft out of shape.

It led to him being unable to use his Titleist driver for the remainder of the final round.

He therefore had to use his 3-wood for the last three holes.

Any time a player purposefully breaks or bends their golf club out of frustration, they are unable to replace it under the rules.

Young's frustrations boiled over as he went on to par the par-5 14th before making bogeys on the 16th and 18th.

He even three-putted for par from around 45 feet at the par-5 17th.

It all added up to a disappointing 1-over 73 in the final round as Young finished three shots behind eventual winner Cam Davis in T6.

Akshay Bhatia three-putted the 18th to hand the title to Davis.

Young lost more than two strokes to the field on the greens in the final round, which further explains why he has yet to win on the PGA Tour.

The big-hitting American has now finished inside the top 10 seven times on the PGA Tour in 2024.

As Young plucked his ball out of the cup for bogey at 18, CBS Sports analyst and former Masters champion Trevor Immelman questioned the American's mentality as a major reason why he has yet to capture his first PGA Tour title.

Others simply believe his putting is just miles below the standard required to win on the PGA Tour.

Young is without question one of the most talented players on the PGA Tour right now, but with seven runner-up finishes to his name now during his career, the agonising wait to enter the winners circle goes on for at least another week.
