Sebastian Soderberg has withdrawn from the 152nd Open Championship due to a back and rib injury.

The Swede's decision to WD prior to the start of The Open at Royal Troon was made official on Wednesday afternoon.

Soderberg will not be replaced by another player in the field.

He was due to be out in rounds one and two with Matteo Manassero and Shubhankar Sharma.

Manassero and Sharma will now be out in a two-ball at 8.14am on Thursday.

Soderberg is the only player to have so far withdraw from the 152nd Open Championship.

The only other two-ball out on the course on Thursday will be Ewen Ferguson and Marcel Siem at 11.47am.

Soderberg, 33, was eligible to compete in The Open as a result of finishing in the top 30 in the final Race to Dubai Rankings in 2023.

He recently blew an eight-shot lead in the final round of the Scandinavian Mixed on home soil in Sweden.

Soderberg just needed a par down the par-4 18th to seal a second career win.

After splitting the fairway, Soderberg sent a mid-iron into the bunker right of the green.

The ball unfortunately plugged.

He splashed out to 35 feet but then left the first putt some two feet short.

Soderberg missed the bogey putt to force a playoff and his double-bogey six meant he lost by one.

The win marked Grant's second at the Scandinavian Mixed, a co-sanctioned event between the DP World Tour and Ladies European Tour.

Soderberg has one victory to his name on the DP World Tour.

That came when he took down Rory McIlroy and three others to win the 2019 Omega European Masters at the scenic Crans-sur-Sierre GC in Switzerland.

Soderberg was also forced to withdraw through injury before the start of last month's KLM Open in Holland on the DP World Tour.
