Denmark's Niklas Norgaard overcame a calamitous double bogey down the stretch to claim the British Masters

Norgaard led by four strokes when he stepped onto the tee box at the par-5 15th hole.

But that lead at The Belfry was reduced to two when he trudged off the green.

The 32-year-old was greenside in two strokes and attempted a flop shot with his third which came up short.

From the second cut of rough he attempted a similar, high-spinning shot but failed to execute.

Then he duffed his fifth shot and he was left aghast, standing with his hands on his hips.

It led to a seven and opened the door for South Africa's Thriston Lawrence.

But Norgaard bounced back with a birdie and held his nerve.

He posted a final round of 72 to finish on 16-under par and win by two strokes.

It was Norgaard's maiden win on the circuit and he took home the top prize of $595,000.

Elsewhere, England's Matt Wallace finished inside the top-10.

There were good finishes for Rasmus Hojgaard and Matteo Manassero.

LIV Golf League player Tyrrell Hatton, making his first start since joining the breakaway, led after 36 holes.

But Hatton crumbled in the third round with an off-colour 76.

The Englishman posted a final round of 74 to finish inside the top-20 and secured some much-needed Ryder Cup points.
