International fans stunned as three notable PGA Tour players left out of Presidents Cup team

PGA Tour fans have been reacting to news that Cam Davis, Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin have been left out of Mike Weir's 2024 International Presidents Cup team to face Jim Furyk's United States team later this month. 

Weir, 54, revealed his six captain's picks at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon. 

The 2024 Presidents Cup takes place at Royal Montreal GC in Canada from 26-29 September. 

Weir, who won the 2003 Masters, chose Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes, Si Woo Kim, Min Woo Lee, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Taylor Pendrith as his six captain's picks. 

It meant no place for Davis, who many considered was a lock for the team having finished eighth on the International Presidents Cup team standings.

Davis also won the Rocket Mortgage Classic for the second time in his career earlier this summer. 

But despite finishing T5 at the BMW Championship last month, Davis missed out on a place in the 30-man Tour Championship last week - something that clearly played a part in Weir's consideration. 

Canadian duo Taylor and Hadwin were ranked 12th and 13th respectively in the standings, and also missed out.

Conners (seventh), Lee (ninth), Bezuidenhout (10th) and Pendrith (11th) were the only captain picks to be ranked inside the top 12 in the standings. 

Kim and Hughes were on the outside looking in at 14th and 15th.

But Weir's 12-man team is now in the books, and his six picks join his six automatics: Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im, Adam Scott, Tom Kim, Jason Day and Ben An.

Furyk has also completed his 12-man team and there were some shocks with his picks, too.

A number of PGA Tour fans were particularly shocked at the omission of Davis. 

'Mac Hughes over Cam Davis huh?' tweeted one irate fan. 'As massive underdogs the strategy of simply chipping in every hole may be the whole game plan for the internationals.'

'That's mad no place for Cam Davis, recently won the Rocket, more than some of the others have done,' tweeted one shocked PGA Tour fan. 

'Davis robbed, absolute joke,' wrote one Australian. 

Even Sporting Life editor Ben Coley couldn't believe Davis was left out.

Other golf fans were baffled that Weir hadn't added two more Canadians to his roster, especially in front of the home fans. 

'Hard not to feel for Nick Taylor,' tweeted Barstool Sports' Dan Rapaport. 'Became national hero winning the Canadian Open last year. Won Waste Management early this year in badass fashion. Then just completely lost form in the summer finished 12th in points, not enough. Also no Cam Davis?!'

Another commented: 'Leaving out Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor for Canadian Presidents Cup has to be brutal. Cam Davis also put in work.'

'Would have taken as many Canadians as possible to get the fans on their side. Taylor and / or Hadwin should definitely have gone,' commented one. 

The United States are looking to win the Presidents Cup for a 10th consecutive year.

Should USA win again, it will mark a 13th time they have lifted the trophy since the Presidents Cup was founded in 1994.

The Internationals won in 1998 and they also tied the match in 2003.
