Caddie: 'Members of U.S. team emphatically got personal with Tom Kim' at Presidents Cup

OUTRAGE: Caddie Paul Tesori reveals 'members of the U.S. team emphatically got personal with Tom Kim' at the 2024 Presidents Cup, but he also believes his own man Kim should have handled the situation differently in the media.

Caddie Paul Tesori has hit out at two members of Jim Furyk's victorious United States team for 'emphatically getting personal with Tom Kim and cursing at him' during the Presidents Cup last month.

But long-time PGA Tour caddie Tesori, who joined Kim's bag earlier this season, has also criticised his own man for the way he reacted to the incident by diving straight into the media to talk about it all.

Tesori, 52, jumped on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio to give his views on a dramatic Presidents Cup match that played out between the United States and Internationals at Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada last month.

Things somewhat escalated on the Saturday night when Kim and his playing partner Si Woo Kim were defeated 1 down on the 18th hole by Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele.

Footage was soon shown of Wyndham Clark shouting out 'nighty night boys, nighty night' in front of the Kims from the side of the 18th.

That was after Si Woo Kim chipped in to win the 16th hole and then ran around the green doing Steph Curry's 'night night' celebration.

A deflated Tom Kim, 22, then sat in front of the media and explained how he "could hear some players cursing at us" during the match.

The South Korean then hit out at the Americans for "bad sportsmanship".

That is something that did not sit well with his opponent Schauffele or U.S. captain Furyk.

Furyk's Team USA then went on to defeat Mike Weir's Internationals by a comfortable seven-point margin (18.5-11.5), marking their 10th consecutive victory in the biennial dust-up that many are now calling to be changed.

Fast forward two weeks, and Kim's caddie Tesori has now disclosed two members of Furyk's U.S. team 'emphatically got personal' with his boss on the Saturday.

There were a total of three scenarios where it happened, according to Tesori who appeared on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio.

"I witnessed three scenarios where members of the U.S. team emphatically got personal with Tom, and, yes, you know, cursed at him, and got very personal, and at the end of the day, no one wants that," said Tesori.

"These two guys that had done it, I don't think that's in their character at all. I know one of them apologised, which is a great thing, the heat of the moment got to him."

After dropping that initial bombshell about two unnamed members of the U.S. Presidents Cup team, Tesori then criticised his own man Kim for the way he dealt with everything in the media immediately after losing his foursomes match to Schauffele and Cantlay.

Tesori divulged how he personally 'wanted to react physically' after what he heard being said to Kim by two members of the U.S. team.

But at the same time, he considered Kim should have had 'thick skin' and spoke to his captain Weir and the rest of his teammates before charging straight into the media.

"I do want to say something about that to make sure, when Tom mentioned that in his Saturday press conference, I didn't know he had done it," continued Tesori.

"When he came in, he shared with me what he did.

"This is part of what a 52-year-old veteran can share with a 22-year-old... I said 'Tom, you had every right to feel the way you did'.

"One of them I witnessed a foot away from him. The feelings I had inside were very New York, Bethpagey. I wanted to react physically, and I was upset by what had happened.

"But at the end of the day, I also know the character of the person that this happened I don't believe is that way, and Tom handled it really well.

"Now there is no reason for him [Kim] to go into the media, and we know in the world we live in now even if there was video proof of what happened, half the world is going to think he's being a baby and the other half is going to think he's viable.

"You know we had a senior writer, one of the most respected writers in the world who got on the Golf Channel, Rex Hoggard, who said he witnessed this act and said it was egregious and it was personal, but yet nobody pays attention to that.

"The fans were fine, and to be honest with you, it was only two of the 24 guys acted in a way I would be embarrassed to act.

"But Tom has to have thick skin, and at the end of the day he can't go to the media and pronounce that, you've got to talk your captain about it, talk to your teammates about it, and it's a learning experience for Tom."
