Classic Collection HB 1

The Cleveland Classic HB 1 oozes class from the moment you clasp hands on its new and improved Winn grip.

This blade, which comes at what I believe is exceptional value at less than £80, combines traditional design with exceptional performance, particularly in terms of a crisp, soft feel at impact.

A new and improved comfortable grip offers soft texture and responsive feedback, while a deep CNC milling pattern on the face promotes a softer feel at impact for more control.

Pros
Incredibly soft feeling; Off-centre hits still travel online; Traditional blade design; Nicely balanced throughout stroke

As you can probably tell, this is one of the softest feeling putters I've had the pleasure of testing during 18 holes at Hersham GC at the weekend.

This blade also felt nicely balanced throughout my stroke. Like most good, basic designs, the Classic HB 1 produces solid distance on centre hits and squiffy strikes don't exactly fall offline, especialy from short range.

I missed one putt from inside 4-feet, made one three-putt from outside 30-feet and tallied 32 putts for the round which was all in all very pleasing.

Appearance wise, it's all very simple, similar to that of the Scotty Cameron Studio Select and PING Anser #1. It sets up square with a simple alignment aid. What more could you really ask?

Verdict

One of the best feeling putters out there, in my book. It's a traditional blade design that will appeal to plenty of players out there, especially given its consistent performance and price tag.
