He is also known by his nickname, Tom, which was given to him owing to his love of the children's TV programme Thomas the Tank Engine.
Kim was born in Seoul on 21 June 2002. His father was also a professional golfer.
He turned professional in May 2018 and originally plied his trade on the Philippine Golf Tour before switching to the Asian Development Tour a year later.
Kim won his first tournament at the age of 17 and also became the second-youngest winner on the Asian Tour after he captured the Panasonic Open India.
In the 2021-2022 season, Kim finished as the leading money winner on the Asian Tour.
It wasn't long before he began making waves in Europe as he qualified for the DP World Tour's Genesis Scottish Open in 2022 via the Korea Professional Golfers' Association.
Kim shone brightly in Scotland and also played well in his debut Open at St. Andrews which was won by Cameron Smith.
He was rumoured to have been offered a deal with the LIV Golf League but instead accepted a special temporary membership on the PGA Tour.
Kim captured his full PGA Tour card for the 2022-203 season when he won the Wyndham Championship despite starting the tournament with a quadruple bogey.
Such was the level of his performances Kim was selected to play in the 2022 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Club, representing the International side.
In October 2022, Kim became the second-youngest player to win two PGA Tour victories before the age of 21 when he claimed the Shriners Children's Open in Las Vegas.
The youngest? Tiger Woods.
As of January 2023, Kim was an equipment free agent. He signed an apparel deal with Nike before the Tournament of Champions.
