PGA Tour golfer Tom Kim rubbed golf fans the wrong way on Sunday evening during the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship

Why, exactly, was everyone so incandescent with rage?

Well, Kim made a visible dent on one of the greens at TPC Southwind after he lashed out in frustration having missed a short birdie putt.

In case you didn't know, the FedEx St. Jude Championship represents the first of three playoff events.

Only the top 50 players in the standings advance to next week's BMW Championship. From there, only 30 make it to the Tour Championship.

NEW: TOM KIM ISSUES APOLOGY AFTER LEAVING HUGE DENT IN GREEN: 'I WASN'T AWARE...'

Kim began the day as one of those players on the bubble, hence why he was so frustrated.

He put quite a run together, making no bogeys as he played the first 15 holes on Sunday in 4-under.

Then he fell to pieces in dramatic fashion, finishing bogey, double bogey, double bogey.

That's 6-6-6!

It was actually at the 12th hole where Kim became hot under the collar.

The 22-year-old had a short putt for birdie but missed the cup left and then promptly lashed out, making a visible dent.

Kim allegedly walked off the dancefloor without repairing the damage, although this is unsubstantiated at the time of publication.

Still, the optics weren't great and Golf Twitter absolutely roasted him.

Reactions included:

"Truly disgusting"

"Karma. He finished 6-6-6 and will likely miss out now"

"Make him start his military service early"

"Do that and you're done. Go home"

"Golf is a game of etiquette and you absolutely hate to see that."

"That's pretty s----. And if you're going to do it, make sure you fix it and apologise."

"I really like Tom Kim, but there's no place for that."

"Pretty sure everyone playing behind him will have something to say to him in the locker room once they see this. That will solve the problem quickly enough."

"This should be a disqualification and fine with a two-week suspension. Professionals need to start behaving like, well, professionals. That damage affects every player behind him coming in."

Kim wasn't the only player this week to get a tad angry.

World number one Scottie Scheffler was also involved in a rare outburst of anger
