Ludvig Aberg's former caddie explains split: "Shocked and disappointed"
Ludvig Aberg's former caddie Jack Clarke has revealed why the Swedish golf phenom decided to let him go in favour of a familiar face on the PGA Tour.
Ludvig Aberg's former caddie Jack Clarke has revealed he was "shocked" and "disappointed" the Swedish golf phenom let him go.
Aberg has decided to hire a more experienced PGA Tour caddie ahead of the 2023-2024 campaign.
The 24-year-old managed to convince Rickie Fowler's old bagman, Joe Skovron, to join his team.
Skovron was working for another young superstar, South Korea's Tom Kim. It is not known how Kim has handled the split.
Clarke had worked with Aberg since he turned professional in June and the pair have had considerable success together.
He was carrying the sticks for the golfer as he claimed his maiden titles on the PGA, DP World Tour.
Aberg, of course, starred at the 2023 Ryder Cup in Italy. He earned Luke Donald's side two points from four matches.
Undoubtedly the highlight of his week in Rome came when he partnered Viktor Hovland to a record 9&7 win against Brooks Koepka and Scottie Scheffler.
Aberg has the world at his feet and has been described by the likes of Rory McIlroy as being a generational talent.
Clarke has now told bunkered he'll be cheering Aberg on from the sidelines and he ultimately respects his decision.
He said: "He just turned around to me the week before last and said he was going to let me go, purely based on wanting more experience on the bag.
"Before the conversation I didn't see it coming because of the results we had together but I totally respect his decision.
"I was shocked and disappointed by the decision, but at the end of the day it's his decision to hopefully become what he wants to become."
"When he said the experience in majors, I can't say too much about it because I don't have that."
He added: "I'm disappointed to not be able to continue with him after what we have been through, but it's his personal choice and I understand it.
"I'll be cheering him on from the sidelines. The predictions are realistic and hopefully with the team around him he can make them become a reality."
Aberg will begin the 2024 campaign alongside Skovron in Hawaii.
He is scheduled to play the first signature event of the new PGA Tour season, The Sentry, at the Plantation Course in Kapalua.
In April, he'll play his first major championship at the Masters.
