With that being said, let's get stuck into our GolfMagic Fantasy picks for the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Ben's GolfMagic Fantasy picks
Pot 1 - Scottie Scheffler (C)
Scheffler is back to the world number one ranking after Jon Rahm struggled at Oak Hill. He was T-2 here last year and although it's not like he wins every single week he just looks like the man to beat.
Pot 2 - Sam Burns
The defending champion here. He missed the cut at the PGA Championship, giving him a few days extra to prepare here. Burns has proven that he is comfortable as a defending champ, given that he took down the Valspar Championship last March following his 2021 victory.
Pot 2 - Max Homa
Collin Morikawa does look like good value in this category but the numbers do not lie. He hasn't cracked a top-10 since February and has six top-25 finishes in his previous 16 events. One of his strongest assets is his putting but the flat stick has been letting him down. He currently sits 169th in the Strokes Gained: Putting department per the PGA Tour statistics. Sorry Collin, but I'm backing Max.
Pot 4 - Rickie Fowler
I believe in the business the term that is used is 'trending'. Although Fowler has been down in the doldrums for a few years, he is climbing the mountain once again. He moved back inside the top-50 in the OWGR after the Wells Fargo Championship but dropped down two spots after the PGA Championship. He's absolutely no stranger to Colonial. Despite missing the cut at Oak Hill, he came into the event off the back of a string of impressive results: eight top-20s in nine starts.
Pot 4 - Cam Davis
I'll be honest: I'm really struggling this week. I'm fading Viktor Hovland. As I've mentioned I'm not keen on Morikawa, nor do I like the look of Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Tony Finau or Jordan Spieth. Which brings me to Davis and it's a real gamble here. He was impressive at Oak Hill where he finished T-4 alongside Bryson DeChambeau and Kurt Kitayama. He's now at a career-high 49 in the OWGR. Plus, he's already posted top-10 finishes at The Players and RBC Heritage. He was also T-7 at this event last year. Maybe it's his time?
The rules
Team selection:
You must pick a team of five golfers for each tournament in the PGA Tour season. There are no player values or salary cap for selections, however you must respect the Pots criteria, better explained in the next section. Golfers who are not in the field will not be available for selection. Golfers who withdrawal from a tournament before the start and are still within your team will not be earning any points.
Each week your team will be wiped, so you must pick a fresh team ahead of each tournament. This is to ensure that you have five active golfers in your team each week to maximize your scoring potential.
You will be able to pick a new team at approximately midday on Monday (BST).
Deadline:
You have up until the first scheduled tee-time to pick your team or make edits to your team. If you do not submit a team by this time, you will be automatically assigned five players. No team edits are permitted after this deadline.
Players pots:
Your 5 players will be chosen from 4 pots:
Pot 1 will be golfers ranked 1-10 (Official World ranking)
Pot 2 will be golfers ranked 11-25 (Official World ranking)
Pot 3 will be golfers ranked 26-50 (Official World ranking)
Pot 4 for will be all remaining golfers (Official World ranking)
Selection restrictions are as follows:
You can only pick a maximum of 2 players from pot 1
You can only pick a maximum of 3 players from pots 1 and 2 combined
You can only pick a maximum of 4 players from pots 1, 2 and 3 combined
You can only pick a maximum of 5 players from pots 1, 2, 3 and 4 combined
