According to reports, Lewis was indicted by the US Government for insider trading on Tuesday.
He was charged with 19 counts, including securities fraud and conspiracy to commit securities fraud and make false statements over multiple instances of alleged insider trading.
According to the Financial Times, Lewis "could be jailed for decades" should he be convicted of criminal charges.
FT reports on Lewis:
Lewis was rarely seen attending Spurs matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Instead he has preferred to spend the majority of his time over at Albany in the Bahamas, a golf resort he co-owns with 15-time major champion Tiger Woods, four-time major champion Ernie Els and golf-avid singing sensation Justin Timberlake.
Albany plays as the host course to Woods' annual Hero World Challenge on the PGA Tour, which last year was won by Viktor Hovland.
Spurs captain and avid golfer Harry Kane, who is reportedly on his way out of the club this summer, has spent plenty of time over at Albany honing his golf swing in recent times.
Albany is one of the most exclusive golf resorts in the world. It has a private beach, exclusive restaurants, three swimming pools and a golf course designed by Els himself.
Lewis has also spent a lot of time on his £113m superyacht, Aviva, which is said to be large enough to accomodate up to 16 guests.
But following this week's latest news about Lewis being indicted for 'orchestrating a brazen insider trading scheme', his days spent soaking up the sun on the golf course with Tiger and Ernie could be numbered.
Damian Williams, the US attorney for the Southern District of New York, said in a video released by his office: "Today I’m announcing that my office, the Southern District of New York, has indicted Joe Lewis, the British billionaire, for orchestrating a brazen insider trading scheme.
"We allege that for years Joe Lewis abused his access to corporate boardrooms and repeatedly provided inside information to his romantic partners, his personal assistants, his private pilots and his friends.
"Those folks then traded on that inside information and made millions of dollars in the stock market, because thanks to Lewis those bets were a sure thing."
