Offensive tweet causes OUTRAGE at UK golf club
Paisley Golf Club reveals a probe is now underway...
A golf club in Scotland is launching disciplinary proceedings after an "offensive" sectarian tweet had been sent to its members, according to the Daily Record.
Officials at Paisley Golf Club in the Gleniffer Braes Country Park have confirmed a probe is now underway after the tweet was sent out through an internal social media group.
The tweet mentioned that Londonderry was going to be 1 degree warmer than Derry, with a caption: "Another victory for the Protestants."
According to the report, the "Northern Irish town has been the subject of a naming dispute between Irish nationalists and unionists for more than a century."
The golf club has instantly condemned the offensive tweet and is now following up as to who the culprits were behind such message.
"Apologies to everyone for a post that was sent in error to this group," read a note from Paisley Golf Club. "It was not intentional and sorry for any upset it might have caused."
A spokesperson at the club said: "Paisley Golf Club was aware of an offensive message sent in error through an internal social media platform to its members.
"In line with its social media policy, Paisley Golf Club has commenced an internal disciplinary hearing with the person involved.
"As a golf club, we of course, do not condone any language that would be offensive to anyone.
"We have written to our members re-enforcing our social media policy and the personal responsibility that this brings."
One golf club member has asked the club for a full investigation.
