Cleveland unveils 588 RTX wedge
Welcome to Cleveland Golf's most advanced spin technology ever
Cleveland has again pushed the technology envelope in wedge design by unveiling its 588 Rotex wedge.
It's available in 588 RTX CB versions of satin chrome and black pearl and benefits from the Rotex pattern on the face, featuring U-shaped Tour Zip Grooves that are 16% larger than the 588 wedges. The face also has a rougher, more durable laser milling for greater friction and spin, says Cleveland.
On previous Cleveland wedges, the milled lines between each groove were straight; on the 588 RTX CB wedges, the lines are curved across the face. The effect of these changes to the clubface grooves and milling is maximised spin, cleaner contact and better performance on shots hit closer to the toe.
“The 588 RTX wedge features a new Rotex Face Pattern - a 3-inch circular pattern that is CNC milled across the entire clubface,” says Cleveland Golf’s product and custom fit manager Joe Miller, speaking exclusively to Golfmagic.
“By itself, it also increases surface roughness. When combined, the Rotex Face Pattern and Laser Milled technology create more surface roughness than any previous Cleveland Golf wedge.
“But the 588 RTX has one of the greatest features I’ve ever seen in a wedge before in that the mill marks are specifically orientated perpendicular to the ball moving up the face on open-face shots. It’s ingenious.”
The 588 RTX wedge will carry a retail price of £75 in 46- and 48-degree (two dots; 8-degree bounce), 50- and 52-degree (10-degree bounce), 54- and 56-degree (14-degree bounce) and 58- and 60-degree (12-degree bounce) in a standard True Temper Dynamic Gold shaft.
They are available in both right and left-handed and can be purchased in a Tour-ready 588 RTX version and ladies model.
