Chinese players WD from tournament as warned to do so by government!
Shanshan Feng and Yu Liu withdraw from LPGA Taiwan Championship on government advice
Shanshan Feng and Yu Liu have withdrawn from this week's Swinging Skirts LPGA Taiwan Championship on Tuesday, as warned to do so by the Chinese government.
Reuters has reported that someone "high up" in the Chinese government told former world number one Feng and Liu to skip the tournament as tensions continue to rise between China and Taiwan.
“They said I can’t respond regarding the issue of withdrawing from the competition,” said Liu, who added her decision was "not for personal reasons."
It is understood neither player will be fined for their late withdrawals "given their circumstances."
Feng is a nine-time LPGA winner, bronze medalist at the 2016 Olympics and the current world number nine, while Liu is currently in her rookie season on the LPGA and 89th in the world.
