Patrick Cantlay hits back at Brooks Koepka criticism: "It was slow for everyone"
Patrick Cantlay has responded to comments made by Brooks Koepka following Sunday's slow pace at The Masters.
Patrick Cantlay has responded to the slow play comments made by LIV Golf's Brooks Koepka at The Masters while in South Carolina for the PGA Tour's RBC Heritage this week.
On Sunday, Koepka entered the final round of The Masters as the leader, but eventually came up short to Jon Rahm after shooting a painful 3-over 75.
Following his round at Augusta National, Koepka, who typically plays pretty fast, was asked how he felt Sunday's pace of play had been.
"Yeah, the group in front of us was brutally slow," Koepka said. "Jon went to the bathroom like seven times during the round, and we were still waiting."
Many on social media turned to their attention to the group playing ahead of Koepka and Rahm, which was Cantlay and Viktor Hovland. While some felt that the AimPoint putting technique used by the likes of Hovland was to blame for the slow pace, more seemed to target their attention towards Cantlay.
During the round, Hovland was seen hitting his wedge shot before Cantlay could even join him up at the 13th green, while Colin Montgomerie took to his Instagram story following The Masters to comment on Cantlay's slow pace.
On Tuesday, ahead of the RBC Heritage, Cantlay was asked about Koepka's comments and for his own thoughts on Sunday's pace at Augusta.
“Yeah, I mean, we finished the first hole, and the group in front of us was on the second tee when we walked up to the second tee, and we waited all day on pretty much every shot," said Cantlay. "We waited in 15 fairway, we waited in 18 fairway. I imagine it was slow for everyone.”
