LIV Golf's Brooks Koepka tried to SMASH window at The Masters
Brooks Koepka says he tried to break a window after losing his cool at The Masters.
LIV Golf's Brooks Koepka has revealed how he "tried to break the back window of a car with his fist" at last year's Masters.
Koepka, 32, missed the cut at The Masters for a second consecutive year in 2022 and it led to some serious frustration while heading out of Georgia with his wife Jena Sims.
"Last year, I don’t even know if I should be saying this, but pretty sure I tried to break the back window of the car with my fist," Koepka told reporters after racing into the outright lead at The Masters on Friday.
"I tried to put it through the back window, not once but twice. First time didn’t go, so figured try it again. The window did not break.
"Apparently [I’m] not strong enough. The ride home was pretty silent.
"But yeah, I guess Mercedes makes a pretty good back window."
Koepka may have felt like smashing another window had he been docked two shots for this potential rules violation with his caddie on Thursday!
KEEP UP TO DATE WITH LIVE SCORES AND UPDATES FROM THE MASTERS
Fast forward 12 months and Koepka, who accepted a fee in the region of $125m to join the Saudi-backed LIV Golf League last summer, is now the 36-hole leader at The Masters.
Koepka is looking to win his fifth career major title and his first Green Jacket.
Should he go on to win The Masters, he would just need to etch his name on the Claret Jug at The Open to complete the career grand slam.
Koepka won two US Opens and two PGA Championships between 2017 and 2019.
But a persistent knee injury has held him back in his pursuit of more major glory.
Koepka has made it clear this season, however, that he is finally injury-free and ready to roll.
That was further evident when Koepka became the first player to win two LIV Golf titles in Orlando last weekend.
Koepka also told reporters on Friday how his LIV Golf decision would have been a tougher one had he been as fit and healthy as he currenty is on Tour.
"Honestly, yeah. If I’m being completely honest, I think it would have been," Koepka replied when asked whether the decision would have been tougher for him last summer. "But I’m happy with the decision I made."
The real reason why LIV Golf players won't be leaving to return to the PGA Tour at least until 2025 was revealed last week.
