LPGA Tour superstar gets involved in Lexi Thompson Solheim Cup drama

Jessica Korda has accused the media of 'shredding' Lexi Thompson after she got annoyed at a reporter for asking her about a costly Solheim Cup shank.

Lexi Thompson appeared to be the big talking point after day one of the Solheim Cup concluded.

The 28-year-old didn't take kindly to being asked to provide a bit more context over a costly shank in her Friday fourballs match.

LPGA Tour star Thompson - paired with Lilia Vu - were involved in a back-and-forth duel with European pairing Leona Maguire and Georgia Hall.

Their match went down to the wire and Thompson had the opportunity to win the U.S. a point with an eagle chip.

It was a tense moment, made all the more important given Maguire had just chipped in for birdie.

Instead, Thompson hit a brutal hosel rocket from a dreadful lie. Her golf ball came to rest at the bottom of a hill.

Thompson didn't hole out from that spot and Vu's birdie attempt raced by, ultimately giving Europe an unlikely point out of nowhere.

Asked for some immediate thoughts by a reporter a short time later, Thompson didn't seem too pleased with the query.

U.S. captain Stacy Lewis could be heard saying under her breath it was a 'terrible question'.

Remind yourself of the moment here:

One person watching is fellow tour pro Jessica Korda. Earlier in the year the elder Korda sister announced she would be taking an indefinite break from the game owing to a number of injuries.

She's also expecting her first child, which will undoubtedly extend her absence from the game.

As far as Jessica is concerned, the journalists are to blame. "So sad seeing golf media, yet again, shred Lexi," she wrote, adding: "It's easy writing about other people's mistakes. It's golf, bad shots happen, give the girl a break."

And Jessica had a message for the haters who would 'come after me':

"A shot like that makes your heart sink into your stomach. Put yourself in those shoes. Live, in front of thousands."

Her comments on social media sparked a lively debate. Even English tour pro Eddie Pepperell chimed in with his thoughts.

"I think you've got a point," he wrote. "I must've hit 25+ shanks in the last few years and haven't been asked once about them."
