Scottish golf club reports £16,000 worth of stolen golf clubs
Crooks steal TaylorMade, Cobra, PING and Callaway clubs in raid at Erskine GC near Glasgow.
Erskine Golf Club has revealed how £16,000 worth of golf clubs were stolen from its pro shop in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The club near Glasgow believes the suspects knew what they were after as only "high-value drivers" were taken during the raid, of which more than 40 Callaway, Cobra, PING and TaylorMade clubs went missing.
According to police reports, a number of clubs were stolen from the display in the front window.
"They range in price from £220 clubs up to £429," said club professional Peter Thomson.
"If anyone is offered Callaway, TaylorMade, Ping or Cobra drivers for sale without the head cover or adjustment keys, then they should be aware and they should notify the police.
"We keep all the head covers in the shop, so the display clubs did not have them on."
The incident marks the second break in at the golf club in the last 12 months.
“We were broken into a year ago, and now this," added Mr Thomson.
"We are now stepping up our security considerably to make sure it doesn’t happen again."
Police Scotland have also launched an appeal for anyone with information to come forward in connection with the theft that happened around 12.40am on Sunday.
