Jon Rahm likely to take notice of Cameron Smith's latest LIV Golf demand
Cameron Smith has urged the LIV Golf League to host a links event ahead of The Open Championship, echoing the thoughts of Jon Rahm.
Cameron Smith has confirmed he has urged LIV Golf to host a links event in the future so breakaway tour players can be better prepared for The Open.
Smith told reporters in Brisbane ahead of the Queensland PGA that the idea is definitely something breakaway tour players want to happen.
But it may be wishful thinking that a links tournament could be held on the Saudi-backed league in 2025.
LIV have not yet revealed their full schedule, but stops in Riyadh, Hong Kong and Adelaide will feature once again.
"I don't know if it'll happen next year," Smith said of having a links event.
"But [it's] definitely in the future it's something that we want to do."

Smith missed the cut at the final men's major of the year in July at Royal Troon.
The 2022 champion golfer of the year missed the cut after a dismal opening round of 80, followed by a 74.
A cumulative total of 12-over par after 36 holes is not what was expected from the former winner.
Smith had spent the week prior at LIV Golf Valderrama and it was completely different test of golf.
He conceded that it was not the best way to prepare for an Open.
"It was really hot, the ball was going a long way up in altitude, and then getting on to links where it's quite cold and windy, it's probably not the best prep," he previously said.
Jon Rahm finished in the top-10 at Royal Troon but also complained about the schedule.
Obviously, LIV management have contracts in place with some venues and plans in the future
"It's not as easy as it sounds to just say, 'Well, let’s do this.'
Rahm said the best way forward was to get other LIV players banging the drum.
"It'd be something I would like to talk to other players about," Rahm told Golf Digest.
"Because that way, there’s strength in numbers if five, six or 10 solid players [agree]. I think a lot of people might agree with it."
Rahm did suggest that he would be fully behind the idea of taking LIV Golf to Ireland.
Whether that happens remains to be seen.

Greg Norman's son floats huge LIV Golf idea
Elsewhere, Greg Norman Jr. has revealed he has been imploring LIV to add a new team to the league.
That team would be comprised of weekly qualifiers.
He made the claim on X as he reacted to some huge changes that could be coming to the PGA Tour in 2026 as a direct result of the breakaway.
His idea received a mixed response, though, with some suggesting the idea would mean the league would lack credibility.
