FootJoy's Autumn/Winter collection for 2024 is jam-packed full of performance-focused pieces, including the ThermoSeries Hybrid Jacket and HydroTour Waterproof Jacket.
Rounding out the collection is the Space Dye Thermal Chill Out quarter Zip, constructed from a jersey fleece fabric that benefits from four-way stretch and excellent moisture-wicking properties.
Available in three colours, the Thermal Chill Out is a versatile garment which can be worn as a layering option or an outer layer.
To test out how it performed on the course, we wore it for 18 holes at Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate.
Let's get into it.
The Thermal Chill Out is a relatively classic design, featuring a primarily light blue body with black panels that add good contrast.
The light blue body broken up with flecks of darker shades, adding nice texture to the design.
FootJoy branding on the collar and black piping are also nice additional touches, which elevate the overall feel and look of the mid layer.
All in all, this quarter zip ticks plenty of boxes in the looks department. FootJoy have played it relatively safe, but in this case it's paid off and we can see this being a very popular choice with golfers this winter.
In terms of performance, we really cant fault the Thermal Chill Out, the jersey fleece fabric is incredibly soft, and thanks to the four way stretch it moves with the body very well throughout the golf swing.
I'm 6'1 and wore a large, which afforded me plenty of room in all the right places.
The fit is athletic and complimentary, while also being loose enough around the arms and chest to allow for a full range of movement in the golf swing.
On the day of testing it was particularly chilly and I wore the mid layer over a base layer, with the two combining to provide plenty of protection from the elements, keeping my body nice and warm throughout the round.
The softness of the fabric is also a big plus, with the fleece lining feeling fantastic against my skin and making it very easy to pull on and off throughout the round.
Verdict
The Thermal Chill out Midlayer is an excellent addition to FootJoy's winter wardrobe and if you're in the market for a warm and verstile quarter zip, then I would highly recommend picking up one for yourself.
The design is safe but solid and the performance can't be faulted.
