Summary: Wilson Golf first introduced ‘D’ or Distance irons in 2005 and the Wilson Staff D-100 irons deliver the ultimate performance-enhancing technology for players who want lightweight, easy-to-swing distance and forgiveness. A 50g ring pulls mass lower and toward the toe and heel for more forgiveness (12% higher MOI than Di11). The lightweight, thin-face irons (up to 7% thinner than Di11) generate faster ball speeds than their predecessor.
Appearance: One of best-looking irons in this class. Wilson maintains its heritage of classic blade shapes in a max game-improvement club. There is a great combination of well-hidden technology and traditional lines, along with an attractive, bright chrome finish. 5
Feel: Nice, pleasantly soft, forged-like feel on centre hits. D-100 feels solid across the entire face. Lightweight shaft and head are well-balanced and easy to control through impact. True Temper SL-85 Matrix shaft felt like it aided a higher flight than with others. 8
Performance: Bigger sweetspot than average allows shots to reach their target even on those squiffy hits. Heavy shots still finish close to the mark. Very forgiving and pleasing offline dispersion rate. Not the longest but certainly gets out there. Wilson fans upgrading from sets that are a few years old will certainly gain a few extra yards through the set. This might mean reconsidering either hybrid or wedge options for better gapping. 8.5
Andy | Carry | Spin rate | Launch angle |
Wilson | 167 | 4,200 | 14.9 |
Charlie | Carry | Spin rate | Launch angle |
Wilson | 163 | 5,200 | 17.6 |
Verdict: More traditional in its appearance than others in the group, the D-100 is also among the lightest and easiest to swing. Long, forgiving and looks the part. 21.5
