Min Woo Lee lifts lid on 'weapon' that has him contending at 2025 Players Championship
Australia's Min Woo Lee has credited his trusty 2-iron at the halfway stage of the PGA Tour's flagship event at famed TPC Sawgrass.
Min Woo Lee says he believes his 2-iron is a big reason why he has raced to the top of the leaderboard at the halfway stage of the 2025 Players Championship.
The Australian golfer, 26, has only made two bogeys after 36 holes of the PGA Tour's flagship event and is tied for the lead on 11-under.
His blistering start, of course, is down to regularly finding fairways and giving himself plenty of birdie opportunities.
So far, Lee has found 21 of 28 fairways.
"I'm not sure why, but I think my 2-iron," Lee told reporters on Friday afternoon when asked why the Stadium Course suits his eye.
"I'm using that a lot and it's a pretty good weapon of mine," he said.
"So I can kind of draw it and hit it straight and it goes a long way.
"When I hit it good it goes, ends up going a long way. That helps.
"Then you have short clubs into holes, so, yeah I would love to hit 2-iron everywhere but obviously you can't, some holes and, yeah, I think that's it. The 2-iron."
Lee added: "If your 2-iron goes 300 yards it's pretty good. Yeah, I just love the club. I can step up on the tee and hit a little draw and again, if it just gets past, it gets past some hills and bounces off hills, it goes a long way.
"It can nearly go as far as 3-wood or a driver sometimes if it plugs. Instead it rolls all the way. So it rolls 50, 60 yards sometimes."
Is it a new one?
"No, I've had it for a long time now," Lee said.
"I've kept it for a while. I've used a 5-wood now and then especially on the West Coast when it was cold and wet. It's a perfect opportunity to use it."
According to Today's Golfer, Lee is also testing out a custom set of prototype irons from Callaway.
Last year, he was using a set of Callaway Apex MB blade irons and a Callaway X Forged UT 19-degree driving iron.
A shot at redemption
This is not the first time that Lee has contended here.
Two years ago Lee was in the final Sunday pairing here with Scottie Scheffler.
Lee shot a 76 that day and ultimately shared sixth place.
"Big learning curve," Lee said when asked what he has learned since.
"Yeah, just I think [I am] a bit more level-headed and a lot of learning between then and now. Obviously, Scottie won that tournament and he played really good and (I) just learned to be in that final group."
