Bryson DeChambeau makes shock Rory McIlroy Masters admission: ‘He wouldn’t talk to me…’

Bryson DeChambeau admits Rory McIlroy wouldn't talk to him during the entire final round at Augusta National, as the Ulsterman put the blinkers on to capture the career grand slam at The Masters.

Bryson DeChambeau has revealed Rory McIlroy did not speak to him once during the final round at The Masters.

McIlroy, 35, well and truly put the blinkers on to end his 11-year major drought after a dramatic final day at Augusta National.

The determination in his eyes was clear for all to see, and perfectly reflected by DeChambeau after the final round.

Many golf fans allude to the fact fellow golf legend Tiger Woods also did not speak to his playing partners when he was in his prime.

Woods had no time to chit-chat on the course, especially when majors were on the line.

And McIlroy did the same on Sunday as he saw out the biggest day of his golf career.

For DeChambeau, it was a final round to forget.

The two-time U.S. Open champion began the final round two shots off McIlroy.

He took the lead as early as the 2nd hole after McIlroy went double-par to DeChambeau's par-birdie.

But DeChambeau soon crashed down the leaderboard around the turn with a double at 11 and bogey at 12.

And there was no coming back.

DeChambeau went on to finish T5, four shots outside of the playoff staged between McIlroy and Justin Rose.

McIlroy squandered a golden chance to win The Masters in regulation play but he would make a bogey from 125 yards in the middle of the fairway.

But the World No.2 made immediate amends by making a stunning birdie from four feet to win a first Masters and become just the sixth player in the modern era to capture the career grand slam.

McIlroy has now achieved golf immortality alongside fellow golf legends Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Ben Hogan and Gene Sarazen.

After the final round, DeChambeau was asked if he had spoken to McIlroy before his sudden-death playoff against Rose.

"No idea. Didn’t talk to me once all day," replied LIV Golf star DeChambeau.

"[The atmosphere was] electric, I loved it. But he was just being focused. That’s not me, though.”

When asked if he had tried to initiate conversation, DeChambeau added: “He wouldn’t talk to me.”

The cold shoulder McIlroy was giving to DeChambeau could somewhat reflect the rivalry growing between the two poster boys on the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.

But it could also refer back to last year's U.S. Open.

Ryder Cup rivals McIlroy and DeChambeau have history as the American infamously broke the Ulsterman and his fan’s hearts when he defeated him at the 2024 U.S. Open.

McIlroy missed two short putts on the final three holes, allowing DeChambeau to swoop in and take a second U.S. Open title.

The pair then met in Las Vegas in December where they played in the Showdown, a PGA Tour against LIV Golf match.

McIlroy teamed up with Scottie Scheffler, facing off against DeChambeau with Brooks Koepka.

In the build-up to the match, the pair shared a joke about their rivalry, leaving McIlroy lost for words.

With the two on the range at Shadow Creek Golf Club, McIlroy said: “I’d like to go up against Bryson and try to get him back for what he did to me at the U.S. Open.”

DeChambeau interjected: “To be fair, you kinda did it to yourself.”

McIlroy and Scheffler went on to comfortably defeat DeChambeau and Koepka in the Showdown.

After DeChambeau's victory at Pinehurst No.2, McIlroy revealed it was the toughest loss of his career.

DeChambeau explained when he saw McIlroy make a double bogey at the 13th during the final round of the 2025 Masters that he wanted to cry for him.

"There were times where it looked like he had full control and at times where it's like, what's going on," said DeChambeau.

"Kind of looked like one of my rounds, actually."

The next time we get to see these two powerhouses face off against each other will be at the PGA Championship from 15-18 May held at Quail Hollow Club.

Bring it on. Golf needs more rivalries...
