Sky Sports confirms new deal to show live coverage of US Open
Sky Sports was in a race against time but a deal has finally been struck to show live coverage of the US Open.
Sky Sports has confirmed it has announced an extension of its partnership with the USGA to show live action of the US Open for a further three years.
There had been fears a deal could be off the table to broadcast the US Open following an article in The Guardian last month.
But Sky has thankfully struck a deal at the eleventh hour to show live coverage of all four days of the third major championship at Brookline.
In a statement sent to GolfMagic ahead of the first round of the US PGA Championship on Thursday morning, Sky Sports wrote the following:
England's Matt Fitzpatrick will defend the US Open at Brookline from June 15-18.
Sky has also confirmed it will also show live coverage of the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst and 2025 US Open at Oakmont as part of a new three-year deal with the USGA.
According to the Guardian report last month, "Sky balked at the price initially quoted for a deal with the USGA, which is negotiated by a third-party agent in the UK."
But a price has now been agreed and all parties are said to be happy.
Sky Sports is showing live coverage of all four days of this week's US PGA Championship at Oak Hill.
Some UK golf fans may recall the 2018 US PGA Championship was broadcast by Eleven Sports after Sky failed to strike a deal with the USGA.
Sky acquired the US PGA again a year later though, made easier by the fact Eleven Sports' broadcast was widely criticsed by golf fans.
