Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and their TMRW Sports co-founder Mike McCarley are understood to be in advanced talks to introduce a new team to TGL in 2026, as well as potentially add a women's league featuring the world's best LPGA players.

The update was provided by Sports Business Journal, who were on the scene at the CAA World Congress of Sports to hear McCarley's latest comments on TGL.

McIlroy, 35, and Woods, 49, hosted and played in TGL's debut season in 2025.

TGL finally got underway in January after having been suspended 12 months due to the SoFi stadium roof caving in.

The inaugural TGL SoFi Cup was won by Atlanta Drive GC, consisting of Justin Thomas, Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay and Lucas Glover.

Both Woods and McIlroy's teams, Jupiter Links GC and Boston Common Golf, missed out on the playoffs that took place in March.

Speaking on a panel this week, TMRW Sports co-founder and CEO McCarley said nothing was yet official but that an additional team is in the works for the second season of TGL.

There are strong rumours a new 'Dallas' team will be created for 2026.

That could potentially open the door for the likes of Dallas-based players Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Spieth, who chose not to be part of TGL in 2025.

McCarley said, according to SBJ, that he was "pleasantly surprised" at the number of bidders for a new TGL team.

He added it would "likely start with one new team and then it will grow from there."

Only PGA Tour players can currently compete on TGL.

But plans are also in the works for some of the world's best LPGA players to join the party in a new women's TGL league.

That could see the likes of fan favourites Nelly Korda and Charley Hull soon be involved on TGL.

Seven Seven Six Founder Alexis Ohanian, who joined McCarley on the panel, expressed his desire for TGL to expand to women soon.

"I've been bugging these guys about the LPGA deal for a minute," said Ohanian, who owns Los Angeles GC on TGL.

"They have been very interested. It’s just these things take time, and I’m not allowed to make any news."

Ohanian also co-founded Angel City GC and started women's track league Athlos.

On the subject of a new women's league on TGL, McCarley added: "There’s no secret we’re working on that.

"Alexis has been a great thought leader for us on that, and I think most of our team owners are right behind them in that area, too."
