Shane Lowry with most Shane Lowry reaction ever to 62 (!) at Valhalla
Shane Lowry joked he's never been more upset to shoot 62 after he set up a golden opportunity to claim the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club.
Shane Lowry joked he has never been 'more disappointed' to shoot 62 after he became the fourth man in history to card the the score in a major championship on day three of the US PGA.
Lowry shone on Saturday at the second men's major of the year, tearing round Valhalla Golf Club with a bogey-free round that contained nine birdies.
With 18 holes left to play the 2019 Open winner trails Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa by two strokes.
Sahith Theegala is solo second on 14-under.
Schauffele carded a 68 whilst Morikawa, a two-time major winner, went one better with a 67.
In truth the Wanamaker Trophy could end up in the hands of one of several competitors.
LIV Golf's Bryson DeChambeau made an eagle at the 18th hole sit in a tie for fourth with Lowry and Viktor Hovland.
European Ryder Cup partners Justin Rose and Robert MacIntyre are on 12-under.
Home favourite Justin Thomas is two strokes adrift of that duo.
Lowry told reporters he 'enjoyed every minute' of his round on Saturday.
He missed a 10-foot birdie putt at the last that would've seen him be the first man in history to card 61 in a major.
"I'm probably the most disappointed anyone can be ever to be shooting 62," he said.
Elsewhere, Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy will likely endure his latest major disappointment. He sits on eight-under, well adrift of the leaders.
And defending champion Brooks Koepka also saw his challenge fade with a three-over par 74.
Perhaps the biggest surprise came from world number one Scottie Scheffler who posted a two-over 74.
Scheffler made five bogeys, one double bogey and four birdies as he fell back to T-24.
It meant his streak of 42 consecutive rounds of par or better came to an end.
