The Masters 2025 LIVE: Day two as it happened

Justin Rose leads the 2025 Masters at Augusta National by one stroke from LIV Golf recruit Bryson DeChambeau.

NEW: MASTERS R3 LIVE UPDATES

England's Justin Rose leads the 2025 Masters after 36 holes.

Rose carded a 1-under 71 on Friday to reach the summit on 8-under par.

He leads 2024 U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau by one stroke.

Rory McIlroy looked as though his bid to achieve the career grand slam was done and dusted for another year.

But the Ulsterman roared back into contention on day two with a 6-under 66.

Scottie Scheffler, the reigning champion, battled his way to an entertaining 71.

Tyrrell Hatton, Jason Day, Corey Conners, Shane Lowry and Viktor Hovland are also inside the top 10.

DeChambeau climbs to 4-under

DeChambeau -4 (16)

Three birdies in the last four holes for the king of content...

23:26
McIlroy in a world of trouble

Rory McIlroy finds the fairway with a 3-wood at the par-4 17th.

From 172 yards, though, his approach takes a hard bounce on the green and he's in no man's land long of the green.

This would be some par...

23:25
Tommy Fleetwood back to level par

Fleetwood E (15)

Lovely stuff from the European Ryder Cup star.

From the middle of the fairway, the Englishman sends a towering iron into the heart of the green.

The eagle putt was not to be, but it's an easy birdie.

Back to level par for Tommy...

23:17
Easy birdie for Bryson DeChambeau

DeChambeau -2 (15)

Bryson finds the putting surface with two big hits at the 15th.

His lengthy downhill putt was decent for pace and that's a gimme birdie...

23:16
Another par for McIlroy

McIlroy -2, Bhatia E, Aberg -3 (16)

Rory finds the putting surface with his tee shot at the par-3 16th but is well short.

His birdie effort misses high but that's a safe par. He'll have to forget what just happened.

Aberg two-putts for his par and Bhatia gets to level after almost holing his tee shot.

23:07
Double for Rory McIlroy

McIlroy -2 (15)

Rory's fifth from the drop zone had a little bit too much heat and he left himself with an awkward downhill putt.

A two-putt sees McIlroy card his first double bogey of the 2025 Masters.

22:59
McIlroy in the water!

Rory fans, avert your eyes.

The Northern Irishman cannot stop his greenside chip and he's in the water.

Damage limitation now...

22:51
McIlroy trundles off the back at 15

McIlroy -4 (14)

Rory hits a laser towards the 15th green. He tells his golf ball to sit and it obliges for a second before rolling off the back.

Still, he should give himself a decent chance for birdie.

22:47
Fleetwood on the move

Fleetwood +1 (13)

Tommy Fleetwood picks up a much-needed birdie at the 13th after tapping in from three feet.

Rahm has an eagle attempt but will also take a four to move back to 3-over..

The third player in their group, Wyndham Clark, is 1-over.

Bogey to close for Justin Rose

So, a closing bogey for Justin Rose.

But that's an opening round of 7-under 65.

Rose played the first 17 holes without a bogey but a sloppy tee shot at the last prevented the veteran from tying the course record.

He receives a massive round of applause from the patrons.

Much to smile about for Rosey.

Par for Rory McIlroy

McIlroy -4, Aberg -2, Bhatia E (14)

McIlroy is looking solid here.

He hits his approach to about eight feet but misses on the right side.

And he looks very unhappy.

Playing partner Bhatia makes his second birdie in a row to move back to level par...

22:37
DeChambeau collects a birdie

DeChambeau -2 (13)

Bryson drains a 15-foot putt for birdie at the 13th after making a meal of his bunker shot on the 12th.

Meanwhile, Justin Rose has made the smart choice by chipping out from the trees...

22:27
Can Justin Rose get the course record?

Rose -8 (17)

Justin Rose taps in for par at 17 despite finding the pine straw with his tee shot.

A three up the last will see him sign for a 63 and a share of the course record...

But he's just hit a shocking tee shot and is in the trees.

There's always a gap but this will be some par...

22:15
Rose drains another one!

Justin Rose cannot miss right now.

The Englishman drains another birdie at the 16h and is now 8-under.

He leads by FOUR!

21:57
Par for McIlroy, birdie for Aberg

McIlroy's group have now played 12 holes.

Akshay Bhatia slips to 2-over after failing to two-putt from 55 feet.

McIlroy tidies up from three feet to save his par after leaving his birdie attempt from 20 feet short.

Here comes Ludvig, though, who gets it to -1.

21:54
Big par save from Bryson!

DeChambeau -2 (11)

Bryson has played his last few holes in a scruffy manner. At the 11th, he tried to go over the trees to find the green but he missed right.

The reigning U.S. Open champ could only chip to 14 feet but he tidies up well.

And it sparks a huge roar from the patrons...

His tee shot at the famed par-3 12th is long, though, and he's in the trap.

"That won't be too difficult," chimes Sir Nick Faldo on Sky Sports' commentary.

21:42
Rahm going the wrong way

Simply not Jon Rahm's day.

He moves to 3-over after he watches his par putt slide past the cup at the 10th.

Rahm places his hand over his mouth, aghast at what he has just seen...

Fabulous save by Justin Rose

Rose -6 (14)

We mentioned Justin had some tree trouble. His approach clipped an overhanging branch and left him short of the green. Still, Rosey gets up and down to keep a clean card.

21:17
A rare miss from Justin Rose

Rose -6 (13)

Wow. Rose gives himself five feet for birdie at the 13th but has missed the opportunity to stretch his lead.

Par is fine and now he's got some tree trouble after hitting his tee shot down the left flank on the 14th...

21:16
Jon Rahm is getting grumpy

Rahm +2 (8)

The Spaniard misses a great look at birdie on the 8th.

Playing partner Tommy Fleetwood is also struggling on the same score as Rahm.

21:09
Bryson makes the turn in 2-under

Four birdies and two bogeys from the 2024 U.S. Open champion.

He makes the turn in 2-under.

21:01
Hatton cards a 3-under 69

Fine start from England's Tyrrell Hatton.

Hatton has made no secret of his love-hate relationship with Augusta National but he's playing better every time he tees it up at The Masters.

He cards a 3-under 69. His playing partner, Jordan Spieth, cards a 1-over 73.
