The Masters 2025 LIVE: Day two as it happened

Justin Rose leads the 2025 Masters at Augusta National by one stroke from LIV Golf recruit Bryson DeChambeau.

NEW: MASTERS R3 LIVE UPDATES

England's Justin Rose leads the 2025 Masters after 36 holes.

Rose carded a 1-under 71 on Friday to reach the summit on 8-under par.

He leads 2024 U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau by one stroke.

Rory McIlroy looked as though his bid to achieve the career grand slam was done and dusted for another year.

But the Ulsterman roared back into contention on day two with a 6-under 66.

Scottie Scheffler, the reigning champion, battled his way to an entertaining 71.

Tyrrell Hatton, Jason Day, Corey Conners, Shane Lowry and Viktor Hovland are also inside the top 10.

Four in a row for Hovland

Hovland -6 (16)

Hovland is on fire here.

He's just canned a fourth birdie in a row.

And from some range too, at least 40 feet on 16.

19:20
Hovland birdies 15

Hovland -5 (15)

Hovland is moving nicely up the board on day two.

He's just sent a stunning wedge shot into three feet, which he duly converted to move him to 5-under par in T3.

Hovland has not enjoyed the best record at Augusta National with just one top-10 finish in six attempts.

That came with a T7 in 2023.

He will be hopeful of much better given the position he finds himself in right now.

19:17
Rasmus on the charge

R.Hojgaard -5 (17)

Denmark's Rasmus Hojgaard is on the charge on Masters debut.

Hojgaard has just drained two birdies in a row on 16 and 17 to push it to 5-under par in T3.

He's now 6-under par for his round as he heads down the 18th.

The last player to win on their Masters debut was Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979.

Sungjae sunk at 15

Im -4 (16)

It's been a torrid half hour for Im, who has bogeyed both the15th and 16th to fall back into the chasing pack at 4-under par.

The South Korean sunk his approach shot into the water on the par-5 15th and it led to a bogey.

He then added another on the par-3 16th.

Im is four back in T7 now.

Scheffler birdie at 2

Scheffler -5 (2)

It's all looking ominious at The Masters as Scottie Scheffler two-putts from 20 feet for birdie on the par-5 2nd.

Scheffler is now to 5-under par and three shots behind Rose, who has just finished his round.

The bookies already have Scheffler at under odds of 2/1 at the moment.

Rose makes par at 18

Rose -8 (F)

Rose converts his par save from six feet on the par-4 18th to shoot a round of 1-under 71.

The Englishman is in the house at 8-under par, and one shot clear of DeChambeau, who is heading down the par-5 13th.

A solid yet unspectacular day for Rose, but he still holds the lead.

Hovland to 4-under

Hovland -4 (14)

It's two birdies on the bounce for a resurgent Hovland, who marches to 4-under par.

Don't rule out the European Ryder Cup hero this week, especially off the back of his recent PGA Tour victory at the Valspar Championship.

Hovland is just three back of Rose.

MCILROY EAGLE!

McIlroy -5 (13)

McIlroy hits a stunning second shot from the pine straw from 201 yards to nine feet.

He then steps up and buries the eagle putt to move to 5-under par for the tournament.

A huge moment for Rory, and one that might just fire him up now heading into the weekend.

McIlroy made two late doubles in his opening round so he will be hoping to avoid any mistakes coming in now to give himself the best possible chance to capture the career grand slam this weekend.

18:39
Bogey for Rose

Rose -8 (17)

Rose comes up well short in the greenside bunker with his approach shot into the par-4 17th.

The Englishman then goes long with his third shot from sand and two-putts for a sloppy bogey.

Rose now leads by just one shot over DeChambeau, who has just made par on the tough 11th.

The 2013 U.S. Open champion has twice finished runner-up at The Masters (2015, 2017).

McIlroy -3 (12)

It's a big par save for McIlroy, who got lucky not to find the bushes at the back of the par-3 12th.

Something I actually did when playing in the Sky Sports Golf Studios recently with Nick Dougherty!

It's a missed cut for 2009 winner Angel Cabrera, who was somewhat controversially let back to compete in The Masters for the first time since he went to prison.

HUGE BIRDIE FOR RORY!

McIlroy -3 (11)

Rory McIlroy makes a huge birdie on the tough par-4 11th.

This will feel like an eagle for the man looking to capture the career grand slam this Sunday.

McIlroy ripped a huge drive down the right side of the fairway and then took dead aim from there to leave his ball five feet under the hole.

The World No.2 buried the putt for a second consecutive birdie and it moves him to 3-under par for the round and to the same score for the tournament.

McIlroy will be looking to keep the foot down to the house now.

He has just missed the green on the par-3 12th, though, and will face a tough task to make par.

Reed eagle at 2

Reed -2 (2)

Patrick Reed was p***** with his putter in the first round after a level-par 72.

Thankfully for the LIV Golf star, he didn't have to even bother with the flatstick on the par-5 2nd on Friday.

That's because he chipped in for eagle from 30 yards.

It's an eagle for Reed, who moves nicely up to 2-under par and just inside the top 20.

Par at 15 for Rose

Rose -8 (15)

England's Rose laid up on the par-5 15th and then played safe with his approach shot to 25 feet.

Rose two-putted from there for a safe par to remain 1-under par for the round and at 8-under for the tournament.

That's just one shot clear of LIV's DeChambeau, who is heading down the 10th.

Sungjae Im to 6-under par

Im -6 (12)

South Korea's Sungjae Im is charging up the board on Friday.

Im has just poured home a 20-footer on the iconic par-3 12th to move it to 6-under par.

That's now T3 alongside Matt McCarty and just two shots off the pace, still set by Rose.

Im is making his sixth start in The Masters this week.

The two-time PGA Tour winner has two top-10 finishes at The Masters in his career.

Rory McIlroy finally gets a birdie

McIlroy -2 (10)

Another beautiful tee shot from McIlroy and his approach was even better. So good, in fact, that he only needs to tap in for a birdie.

17:53
Mistake from Justin Rose

Rose -8 (14)

Justin Rose now only leads The Masters by one stroke after playing making a meal out of the par-4 14th.

His tee shot was fine but his approach was short and he also flubbed his chip.

Rose does well to only drop one stroke.

17:50
Big change at the top of the leaderboard

DeChambeau -7 (8)

DeChambeau makes his fourth birdie of the day at the par-5 8th.

It goes without saying that DeChambeau finds the putting surface in two strokes.

He nudges his eagle putt down the hill and it stops short. Still, it's an easy birdie and he moves to within two of Rose, who is in trouble at the 14th.

17:48
Hojgaard gets moving

R. Hojgaard -4 (10)

Rasmus makes another birdie after a superb approach shot to 10 feet at the par-4 10th.

17:42
Another par for McIlroy

McIlroy -1, Aberg -4, Bhatia -1 (9)

McIlroy's booms a drive more than 350 yards down the middle of the 9th fairway. His approach looked perfect and span back towards the hole.

But it just kept going. And going. And going.

By the time his golf ball stopped, it was 30 feet from the hole.

McIlroy got a read off Aberg's putt but also misses on the high side.

Pars for McIlroy and Aberg.

McIlroy smiles as he walks off the green.

17:35
Par for Rose

Rose -9 (13)

Justin ticks off another par at the 13th but will feel slightly disappointed he doesn't walk off the green with a birdie.

He manoeuvred his drive round the corner perfectly and decided to lay up.

From there, Rose flicked a so-so wedge to about 25 feet.

He judges the speed well, but it just misses low.
