Golf legend gets emotional ahead of Masters farewell
Two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer got emotional detailing his decision that after 41 starts at Augusta National, the 2025 Masters will be his last.

Two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer had tears in his eyes as he addressed the media ahead of his final Masters Tournament.
Langer, who won The Masters in 1985 and 1993, has decided that after 41 starts that the 2025 Masters will be his final time competing at famed Augusta National.
In an emotional press conference on Monday, the popular German golf legend held back the tears as he discussed his difficult decision to stop playing in golf’s most prestigious event.
“It’s very emotional, you can tell already my voice is breaking a bit just realising it’s going to be my last competitive Masters after four decades [of playing]," said Langer.
“It’s going to be bittersweet, I think.”

Langer, 67, who has won the most titles on the PGA Tour Champions than anyone else (47), tore his left Achilles in February 2024 whilst playing pickleball.
“I knew it was time to call it quits as a player, I wanted to do it last year, but couldn’t with my Achilles surgery," he continued.
“The course is just getting too long, and I’m getting shorter and shorter, and I’m hitting hybrids where the other kids are hitting 9-irons and 8-irons, maybe wedges. So I knew I wasn’t going to be in contention anymore.
“A few years back, I asked the chairman of the club [Fred Ridley] is there a time limit? You know like, do we age out when we’re 60 or what is it? And he said, “No, you will know when it’s time to quit; it’s totally up to you.”
Langer only won one other PGA Tour title to his name, the Sea Pines Heritage in 1985, but he is second in all-time wins on the European Tour with 42 victories.
Late great Seve Ballesteros leads the European Tour all-time list with 50 wins.
In 2020 Langer became the oldest player in Masters history to make the cut at 62 years of age, 7 months and 13 days - which was broken by Fred Couples in 2023.
In his final and 41st start at Augusta, Langer is apart of the 95 player field all looking to win the coverted green jacket.
