Hideki Matsuyama will be going in search of back to back PGA Tour titles when he tees it up in this week's Sony Open at famed Waialae Country Club in Hawaii.

Matsuyama pocketed a whopping first prize of $3.6m at The Sentry on Sunday after setting a new PGA Tour low record tournament score in the process of 35-under par at Kapalua.

It marked his 11th PGA Tour title and he will be seeking a 12th at a venue he has enjoyed success on in the past having won here in 2022.

Matsuyama starts a warm tournament favourite in the second PGA Tour event of the season.

  • Maverick McNealy - 25/1

2025 Sony Open - Betting Tips

Hideki Matsuyama - 10/1 - looks the safest play in what is a fairly average PGA Tour field; Hideki played superb golf last week at The Sentry setting a new PGA Tour record score in the process and he's also had success at Waialae CC before having defeated Russell Henley in a playoff in 2022; 10/1 looks a decent price for a man in red-hot form to start the new season

Tom Kim - 20/1 - Kim ended last season on a positive note with a number of impressive finishes and the South Korean will be eager to get back in the winners circle after a winless 2024 campaign; this golf course is not the longest on the circuit and it very much rewards precision over power, which suits him down to the ground. At double the odds of Matsuyama, the smart play for a bit of value this week could very well be Tom Kim.
