Rory McIlroy reveals the changes made to Augusta National ahead of 2025 Masters
Rory McIlroy has spoke to reporters before the Texas Children's Houston Open about his recent trip to Augusta National ahead of The Masters.
Rory McIlroy has revealed Augusta National has four new greens.
McIlroy, 35, will head to Georgia in two weeks' time as the second favourite to win the green jacket at the 2025 Masters.
Should he do so, he will become the sixth player in history to complete the career grand slam.
Only Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods have completed the feat.
McIlroy told reporters before the Texas Children's Houston Open his recent trip to Augusta was taken - in part - so he could take pressure off himself and not feel rushed during the tournament week.
He also lifted the lid on what golfers in the field can expect at Augusta following the damage left by Hurricane Helene in September.
"There's four greens that are new this year that they've redone," the PGA Tour star said when asked what stood out for him.
"You just sort of, you have a look at those and see if there's any new hole positions they give you, stuff like that.
"Apart from that, honestly for me, it's nice to play a practice round without people around and it sort of takes the pressure off the start of the week for me.
"There's a lot of obligations, there's big commitments whether it be from media or the par-3 tournament on Wednesday.
"I just like to get up there and feel like I'm not rushed Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday the week of the tournament and that's usually the reason I go there."
McIlroy said the loss of a few trees is very noticeable but apart from that the course is practically the same.
Despite admitting that his mind is on The Masters this week, McIlroy said he still wants to add to his tally of 28 Tour wins.
He won his second Players title two weeks ago after defeating J.J. Spaun in a playoff at TPC Sawgrass.
"I just want to get a card in my hand and shoot scores and hopefully get myself in contention and try to win another golf tournament," he said.
"It's not as if I'm playing here this week and thinking about two weeks' time.
"I'm here, I'm in the present, I'm trying to do my best this week and trying to win this golf tournament.
"I think just competitive reps. I'm obviously playing well, I want to keep playing well, so I think every round you play where you see good things you're sort of filling up that confidence bucket a little bit, so I want to see that.
McIlroy is playing the first two rounds of the Texas Houston Children's Open alongside Maverick McNealy and 2023 U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark.
World number one Scottie Scheffler is playing alongside Rickie Fowler and Sungjae Im.
