Rickie Fowler handled announcer's first tee mistake just as you'd expect
PGA Tour star Rickie Fowler handled this bungled announcement before the first round of The American Express in the way you'd expect.
We have seen some hilarious bungles in our time from first tee announcers.
Some of our favourites include:
- The time Rory McIlroy was announced as Roy before the third round of the U.S. PGA Championship
- The time Brooks Koepka was announced as Bruce before the 2022 Farmers Insurance Open
- The time Justin Thomas was announced as Justin Thompson at the 2022 U.S. Open
- The time Luke Donald was announced as Luke McDonald at the 2020 Honda Classic
The latest example of a gaffe an announcer will want to forget in a hurry came before the first round of the 2024 The American Express.
Rickie Fowler was in the 12.58pm tee time at PGA West with his good buddy Justin Thomas.
"Starting my season with you," Thomas told Fowler on the tee box.
"You sure you're happy about that?" came the reply from Fowler.
"I never said I was happy, I said I was going to start my season with you," said JT sarcastically.
When it was Fowler's turn to hit, the announcer said he was from Marietta, Georgia, not Murietta, California.
Fowler appeared to find the mistake funny and just pointed to where he's actually from. "Over there," he said.
"I'm sorry," the announcer said.
