Report: PGA Tour golfer takes 'full responsibility' over mix-up
PGA Tour member Mark Hubbard was forced to enter a Monday qualifier for this week's Procore Championship after he missed the deadline to enter.
PGA Tour member Mark Hubbard decided to tee it up in a Monday qualifier for this week's Procore Championship for a humorous reason.
Hubbard finished 69th in the FedEx Cup standings in the 2023-2024 season and therefore is eligible for this week's PGA Tour event in Napa, California.
He planned to play this week's tournament - which marks the beginning of the FedEx Cup Fall - but missed the deadline to enter by a matter of minutes.
According to the regulations, golfers have until 5:00pm to register on the official PGA Tour website.
Hubbard wrote on X that he realised his mistake 20 minutes after the deadline.
According to Ryan French aka MondayQInfo, Hubbard attempted to see if the Tour could make an exception but there was 'nothing they could do'.
Fellow pro Michael Kim told Hubbard that at least he realised his error before he left.
Earlier in the year, Tom Kim forgot to register for the Scottish Open.
He only realised his mistake after he got to The Renaissance Club.
Kim was bailed out as the tournament sponsor, Genesis, offered him an exemption.
There was no such luck for Hubbard, though.
Hubbard confirmed he still planned to travel given he has NFL tickets to watch the San Francisco 49ers next Monday.
He was listed to take part in this week's Monday qualifier alongside Blake Hathcoat and Sangmoon Bae.
Credit must go to Hubbard for going the extra mile here.
Not many would have reacted the same way as the 35-year-old.
