Ludvig Aberg will be out of action for the best part of a month on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour as he undergoes knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee this week.

Aberg, 24, has battled a troublesome knee injury for a large part of the season.

He was having to use a knee brace to help him go about his business.

Aberg got snappy with one reporter who asked him about his knee at the Memorial Tournament in June.

But Aberg has finally decided with his doctors to take action to sort out his left knee for good now that the FedEx Cup race has come to an end.

The Swede finished solo 16th in the FedEx Cup race, which ended at the Tour Championship on Sunday.

That saw him earn $795,000.

Aberg's decision to have surgery comes a week after Jordan Spieth also decided to do the same thing on his wrist.

The update on Aberg's knee was provided by Golf Channel's Todd Lewis following the action at East Lake.

'This week Ludvig Aberg will have arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee that has bothered him since Spring,' tweeted Lewis.

'Ludvig should be able to hit balls 3-4 weeks after the procedure. Likely to play again in 2024 on a limited schedule.'

Aberg will not miss a great deal of PGA Tour action, especially with a week's break in the schedule until the first event of the FedEx Cup Fall at the Fortinet Championship in two weeks' time.

The end of the month also sees the United States battle the Internationals in the Presidents Cup, so he would not have been involved that anyway.

There had been some hope Aberg would compete in the DP World Tour's flagship event of the season, the BMW PGA at Wentworth in three weeks' time, but that will not be happening now he is undergoing knee surgery.

Aberg is currently ranked eighth in the DP World Tour Rankings so he will be hopeful his knee has fully recovered to allow him to tee it up in some of the remaining tournaments on the schedule.

The European Ryder Cup star will no doubt be looking to get himself in prime condition to compete in the DP World Tour's season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai from 14-17 November.

It will also be interesting to see whether Aberg still commits the following week to his title defence at the RSM Classic on the PGA Tour.

Despite not winning a tournament so far this season, Aberg has chalked up seven top-10 finishes including a solo second on his major debut at The Masters in April.

Aberg vaulted to a career-best fourth position in the Official World Golf Rankings earlier this summer, but he slid back to fifth following the FedEx Cup finale at the Tour Championship on Sunday.
