PGA Tour star returns to action at Tiger Woods course after being forced out
PGA Tour pro McNealy returns after lengthy spell on the sidelines.
PGA Tour pro Maverick McNealy returns to the circuit at the World Wide Technology Championship this week following five months on the sidelines due to injury.
McNealy, 27, will compete on the PGA Tour for the first time since missing the cut at the RBC Canadian Open in June.
This week's tournament takes place at the Tiger Woods-designed El Cardonal at Diamante.
McNealy tore the anterior sterno-clavicular ligament in his left shoulder last February but continued to fight through the pain barrier for several months before calling a time out.
The American opted for a treatment plan that included "physical therapy, biomechanics analysis, golf swing changes and regenerative stem-cell treatments."
McNealy also got engaged during his time off, and also spent time working towards his private pilot instrument rating.
As a result of his lengthy spell on the sidelines, McNealy, who has never won on the PGA Tour, is still on the way to retain his card for next season at 121st in the FedEx Cup Fall Points List with just three events remaining on the schedule - but only just.
The top 125 on the FedEx Cup Fall Points List retain their cards and are exempt into all full-field events in 2024.
It is understood McNealy plans to play in at least two of the next three tournaments, but much will depend on his position on the list.
McNealy has slipped from 99th in the world to 154th since taking time out the game.
The WWT Championship features a number of PGA Tour stars such as Ludvig Aberg, Cameron Young and Sahith Theegala.
PGA pro Michael Block has also received an invite into the tournament.
