PGA Tour Schedule 2024: new season features a Tiger Woods twist

The PGA Tour have revealed in full the 2024 PGA Tour schedule, with some interesting twists including changes to Tiger Woods' event at Riviera.

PGA Tour Schedule 2024: new season features a Tiger Woods twist

A few weeks ago the reimagined 2024 PGA Tour schedule was leaked, but now we have confirmation.

There are some interesting nuggets.

They included:

  • Of the 36 events in the FedEx Cup regular season, eight of them will be given 'signature' status. The bumper prize purse tournaments were created amid unprecedented disruption from LIV Golf. They were previously called 'elevated' before being referred to as 'PGA Tour designated'. The signature events will feature prize purses of $20m and limited fields
  • Tiger Woods' Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Memorial, hosted by Jack Nicklaus at Muirfield Village, will retain the 36-hole cut, with the winner receiving an extra 2 per cent of the standard 18 per cent payout. That means the champion of these tournaments will take home $4m.
  • The FedEx Cup champion will receive $25m, up from $18m.

The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am will be given signature status, with only the first two days being played alongside celebs and amateurs. The field size will be reduced to 80 players.

One of the common criticisms about the proposals before they were confirmed was that rank-and-file members would complain the new structure would see the rich getting richer.

But the PGA Tour have attempted, in part, to try and address these concerns by creating categories that are called Next 10 and the Swing 5

The Next 10 is composed of the top 10 members, not otherwise exempt, from the FedEx Cup standings whereas the Swing 5 are the top five points earners that are not otherwise exempt.

TLDR, but what that means is if you're playing well at the right times you can play your way into the signature events.
