PGA Tour golfer told Justin Thomas dig 'cheap and unnecessary'
PGA Tour golfer Dylan Wu decided to bring up Justin Thomas's forgettable moment in Hawaii as he reacted to Charley Hoffman's letter to the membership.
Dylan Wu referenced the lowest moment of Justin Thomas's career as he offered his take on Charley Hoffman's explosive letter to the PGA Tour membership.
Hoffman wrote an email to Tour members last Sunday and reportedly sent it at 6.03pm as Rory McIlroy won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
The 20-year Tour veteran implored golfers to speed up play after 'taking a lot of heat in recent weeks'.
And in what was considered a dig at the likes of McIlroy, urged players to commit to playing more PGA Tour events instead taking part in TGL or in the Race to Dubai.
"Golf is a tough game, and when conditions get extreme, it takes time to play it the right way," Hoffman wrote in a letter that was shared by GOLF magazine's Sean Zak.
He added: "We all need to take responsibility to be ready when it's our turn to play and having the awareness to realize that we are out of position and speed up even before the rules official shows up. We do it all the time, we just need to be more aware of it!"
Another letter was sent to PGA Tour members this evening, now from Charley Hoffman:

- critiques Aon Swing 5 implementation
- “Many of you keep saying you want to play fewer events, yet you still find time for TGL, Race to Dubai…” pic.twitter.com/cVora8Qai6
Hoffman also wasn't happy about the fact the bumper prize purse signature events are limiting playing opportunities across the board.
Only 80 players were in the field last weekend.
"The best competition happens when the best players go head-to-head in a deep, competitive field-not in small, limited-entry events that leave deserving players on the outside looking in."
His letter came less than two week's after Thomas wrote one of his own in a similar tone.
Thomas, who penned the letter with Max Homa, urged players to be more open with the media to improve telecasts.
He also asked for any ideas about innovation and entertainment.
Wu agreed with Hoffman.
But he decided to take what some considered a cheap and unnecessary shot at Thomas.
He wrote on X: "I honestly think he was pretty spot on. He's not a huge name but a well-respected guy with a great, long career.
"It's a better email than JT telling us to be better with the media.
"I recall a hot mic moment in Hawaii a few years ago..."
He was referring to the moment Thomas was caught calling himself a 'f-----' during the 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions in Kapalua after missing a putt.
It prompted Ralph Lauren to terminate their sponsorship of the two-time major champion.
Thomas apologised profusely for uttering the homophobic slur.
"There's just no excuse," he previously said.
"I'm an adult, I’m a grown man. There's absolutely no reason for me to say anything like that. It's terrible. I'm extremely embarrassed."
Reacting to the comment from Wu, one X user wrote: "Just an extremely unnecessary shot."
This person added: "I'm guessing you and JT aren't going to crack a beer anytime soon."
