PGA Tour golfer Cameron Young had an understated reaction to carding a third round of 11-under 59 at the Travelers Championship

Young became only the 13th player in PGA Tour history to shoot a sub-60 round.

He was hoping to equal Jim Furyk's 2016 record of 58 at TPC River Highlands but came up one short.

"It was good from the start," Young told Golf Channel.

"I can't say I was expecting it, I've been playing better than my results have shown but waking up this morning I wasn't really thinking I was going to be five-under through four.

"It was a lot of fun to do and I feel like I really controlled my mind well all day."

Young came racing out of the blocks, making birdies on the first two holes before holing out for eagle at the third hole from 149 yards.

Circles on his scorecard at the fourth, eighth and ninth holes saw him turn in seven-under 28.

Three more pars followed before he drained a bomb from 57 feet for birdie at the par-four 13th.

Young then set up a five-foot eagle putt at the short par-four 15th by nuking a long-iron onto the green from 280 yards.

He blew a glorious chance at the 16th to make another birdie, missing from seven feet.

But he converted a five foot birdie putt at the 17th after another towering approach with an iron from 161 yards.

It looked as though Young might've come up one short of 59 after his tee shot at the 18th hole left him in a world of trouble.

His tee shot settled in the grass above the lip of the fairway bunker and his ball was severely above his feet.

Young sent his approach short of the green but managed to get up and down, saving par with a nine foot putt.

He finished his round more than two hours before the leaders teed off.

Young trails by five shots heading into the final round.

Tom Kim leads at 18-under par, one shot clear of Akshay Bhatia and World No.1 Scottie Scheffler.
