Sweden's Ludvig Aberg fired a sizzling 9-under 63 to take the early lead at the Farmers Insurance Open at famed Torrey Pines, and set new personal PGA Tour records in the process.

Aberg's opening round of 63 on the easier North Course at Torrey Pines saw him take the first-round lead for the first ever time in his PGA Tour career.

The score also marked his lowest ever first round on the PGA Tour.

Aberg went out in 30 highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 17th.

He returned on the front nine in 33 shots for a flawless 63.

It looked easy, and it felt it too according to the big-hitting Swede.

"Yeah, it was nice," said Aberg.

"Felt like I was driving the ball really well.

"Golf becomes a lot easier when you can do that.

"Even though North is a little bit easier than South, it still presents its challenges and you've still got to hit the shots.

"Super happy with the way we kind of came out of the gates today and played some good golf."

Aberg is now bracing himself for three rounds on the tougher South Course at Torrey Pines.

He is hoping the driver continues to behave.

"I think I like when you hit a lot of drivers and I feel like I did that a lot today and probably going to do the same tomorrow," added Aberg.

"Any golf course when it looks like this, when you have the views and Torrey Pines is a really, really cool place.

"Yeah, looking forward to tomorrow."

Aberg was one of our three tips to win the Farmers Insurance Open.

European Ryder Cup hero Aberg currently finds himself two shots clear of the chasing pack as it stands.

Hideki Matsuyama is nicely in position at 4-under par having played the tougher South Course in the first round.
