Korn Ferry pro confirms PGA Tour golfer's 'wild' pre-putt routine is legit

Ryo Hisatsune was spotted taking a sip of water before every single putt during the Valspar Championship on the PGA Tour.

PGA Tour members have plenty of superstitions and pre-shot routines.

For example, England's Justin Rose can be spotted always tucking his shirt under his left armpit to help him feel connected in the golf swing.

Former Masters champ Adam Scott likes to pre-set the left hand grip with the club before he even walks to the ball.

And former PGA Tour pro turned LIV Golf recruit Matthew Wolff's pre-shot routine includes a very noticeable, forward-press trigger move.

Which brings us nicely current Tour member Ryo Hisatsune, who was in the field over the weekend at the Valspar Championship

The Japanese pro got himself in contention, which meant that we saw more of his shots on the TV coverage.

On the greens, it became immediately apparent that Hisatsune's caddie Taiga Tabuchi was always on hand with the golfer's water bottle.

Hisatsune could be seen taking a swig before hitting every putt.

Brendan Porath took a clip of Hisatsune and re-shared it on X, prompting Korn Ferry pro Brandon Berry to chime in.

Berry wrote that he played behind Hisatsune during last year's Rocket Mortgage Classic and it's something he always does.

He also claimed that Hisatsune also doesn't swallow the water until after he hits.

"Does it every putt," he added.

Take a look at the clip here:

Those who viewed it on X found it highly amusing.

"Surprised Rickie Fowler hasn't done this yet," one user wrote. "A missed opportunity for his sponsors. There's still time."

Another joked: "We've been doing this in our golf league for years, but with whiskey."

This person wrote: "He dripped the putt in too."

Hisatsune ultimately finished in a tie for fourth at Innisbrook Resort's Copperhead Course.

Viktor Hovland broke his winless drought, stepping into the winner's cirle for the first time since the 2023 Tour Championship at East Lake.

Hovland hit three birdies in his final five holes to reel in Justin Thomas and claim his seventh PGA Tour title.

The Norwegian later told reporters he had no idea how he was able to win, given that he still feels his golf swing isn't great.

Thomas said it was difficult to process the defeat when it looked like he was going to canter to victory.

The American was chasing his first win since the 2022 US PGA Championship at Southern Hills.
