Legendary golf film Happy Gilmore grossed over $82m worldwide following its launch more than 28 years ago.

It was released by Universal Pictures, and Sandler and Tim Herlihy wrote the script, with Dennis Dugan as the director.

The film saw Happy - played by Sandler - take up the game of golf with no prior knowledge of it other than being able to strike a pure hockey puck.

Happy wanted to get involved in the sport once seeing the hefty prize money on offer in qualifying events, as he did everything he could to save his grandmother's house.

With the help of retired golf pro Chubbs Peterson, played by the late Carl Weathers, Happy took his game to new heights and hit some of the longest drives of all time.

Happy's very aggressive playing style and behavior irked many of his peers on Tour, none more so than McGavin.

The duo were then locked in a final-round tussle for the Tour Championship, and it all came down to the 18th hole where drama unfolded as a tower collapsed on the green and Happy saw out the win in dramatic fashion.

Few details have emerged about the script for Happy Gilmore 2, but all will be revealed when it hits Netflx on 25 July 2025.
