Golf fans stunned (!) after reading detective's final Scottie Scheffler statement

Golf fans have been left stunned after reading what Detective Bryan Gillis had to say in his official statement following yesterday's news that charges brought against Scottie Scheffler have been dropped. 

Gillis was the officer involved in Scheffler's shock arrest just after 6am on Friday 17 May.

Scheffler, 27, was detained by police after he misunderstood the traffic flow situation heading into Valhalla GC following a fatal collision that had taken place an hour earlier. 

The World No.1 was immediately taken to jail, and while he was released just over an hour later, Scheffler was charged with second-degree of assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals. 

Scheffler was due to appear in court on 3 June, a week before the US Open, but yesterday (29 May) it was confirmed that all charges brought against the 10-time PGA Tour winner had been dropped. 

GolfMagic provided LIVE updates from the Scheffler arrest hearing, which took place at the Hall of Justice in Louisville on Wednesday. 

After reviewing the evidence and learning Detective Gillis 'broke policy' for not having his body-worn camera on, Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell cleared all the charges brought against Scheffler.

O'Connell said Scheffler's actions did not "satisfy the elements of any criminal offence" and "corroborated" Scheffler's assertation that the incident was a "big misunderstanding".

He added: "The evidence we reviewed supports the conclusion that detective Gillis was concerned for public safety at the scene when he initiated contact with Mr Scheffler."

Moments later, Scheffler's attorney Steve Romines reacted to the news outside the courthouse, and he let off a fiery response to one reporter's question. 

Scheffler himself also reacted to the verdict as he took to his Instagram Story. 

Later in the evening, an official statement was then submitted by Detective Gillis, who admitted he 'was drug by the car, went to the ground, and received visible injuries to my knees and wrist'. 

During the initial police report submitted by Detective Gillis, he claimed his '$80 pants were beyond repair' from the incident with Scheffler. 

Detective Gillis also admitted in his final statement that he and Scheffler 'both agree there will be no ill will over this going forward'. 

But it was his end remarks that have left plenty of golf fans scratching the surface, particularly his line about now having 'the most famous pair of pants in the country'. 

Many PGA Tour fans are questioning how Detective Gillis can have the audacity to make fun of the incident when this case has toyed with the life of new-father Scheffler for the best part of two weeks.
