Golf fans all say same thing as Cameron Young makes unwanted PGA Tour history
Cameron Young's seventh second place finish without a win marks the most since 1983 on the PGA Tour.
Cameron Young has achieved the unwanted PGA Tour record of most runner-up finishes since 1983 following his latest agonising runner-up spot behind Peter Malnati at the Valspar Championship.
Young, 26, is rightly considered by many as the best player in the game today without a PGA Tour title to his name.
He has already vaulted to just outside the top 20 in the world, as well as to 150th in career earnings on the PGA Tour ($13m) despite not having etched his name on any silverware.
Young is now the fourth highest-earning active PGA Tour player without a win behind Tommy Fleetwood ($21m), Byeong Hun An ($15m) and Denny McCarthy ($14m).
Taking a look on social media in the aftermath of Young's latest heartbreak, and it would appear many golf fans are questioning whether the 2021-22 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year will ever win a tournament.
Some fans are going as far to say Young is a "bottler", just as many were labelling Xander Schauffele after his own runner-up finish to Scottie Scheffler at The Players.
Schauffele had some words for his haters.
Here's a look at some tweets by golf fans:
I’m convinced Cameron Young will never win on tour after losing to Yellow Ball Malnati

Cameron Young is one of the biggest bottle jobs in golf. No way should a man, who I would say is in the top 5 ball strikers of a golf ball on the planet not have a win and 7x 2nd places in his career.

I just don’t understand what Cameron Young has to do to win an event

Cameron Young down 1 on 18, putting for birdie and leaving it 9 feet short—then missing for a three-putt bogey— is a microcosm for Young’s career so far. Such a talented player, puts himself in position so many times, just has not been able to summon the magic in crunch time.

Cameron Young might never win a tournament

Cameron Young may be the definition of a bottler

It is fair I think to question whether Cameron Young is going to win on the pga tour. The close calls are one thing, but the decision making is something else. Why on gods green earth would he hit driver on 18?

Did Cameron Young just leave a putt 9 feet short on 18 to lose the golf tournament??? #pgatour #golf pic.twitter.com/8wLmfSAsdc

Cameron Young will never win

Cameron Young's seventh second place finish without a win marks the most since 1983 on the PGA Tour
Young found himself in a tie for the lead with Malnati heading into the feared 'Snake Pit' on holes 16, 17 and 18.
He had started the final round three strokes off the pace.
Young made a par at the difficult par-4 16th and then missed a 15-footer for birdie on the par-3 17th.
The American then sprayed his tee shot way left into the trees on the par-4 18th, but recovered by hitting a wedge onto the green to some 50 feet.
While all that was going on, Malnati, in the group behind, made birdie on the par-3 17th from six feet to move one stroke ahead.
It should probably be noted Malnati received a big break on the 16th when he was allowed to move his ball onto the green from the deep rough after his feet were up against a sprinker.
Young marched up to the 18th green, but his putter went cold when it mattered most as he proceeded to three-putt for bogey to hand the tournament to Malnati.
Despite finding the bunker with his tee shot down the 18th, Malnati still managed to make a par for a two-stroke win on 12-under.
The victory marked Malnati's second on the PGA Tour but his first since the 2015 Sanderson Farms Championship.
Although Young put up a fight for the title and carded a 3-under 68 in the final round, it was another disappointing end to a tournament he most certainly had within his grasp on the closing holes.
