'Business over country?' LIV Golf's Greg Norman shocks fans with Olympic Golf message

LIV Golf or Australia: Who would Greg Norman prefer to win Olympic Gold in Paris?!

Greg Norman has rocked up at Le Golf National for the Olympic Golf Tournament, and then very much divided opinion with his latest Instagram post.

That's because LIV Golf CEO Norman, 69, has given his full support to the seven LIV Golf players in action in Paris this week.

And NOT his own Australian players.

'Bring home the medals boys', Norman captioned his latest Instagram post solely aimed at LIV Golf players.

There was zero mention of his native Australian duo Jason Day and Min Woo Lee, who both play on the PGA Tour.

But why exactly... is this a business trip?

The seven LIV Golf players competing at the 2024 Olympic Golf Competition?

Surely an extra line of support for his two countrymen who play on the PGA Tour woundn't have ruffled too many feathers over at LIV Golf HQ?!

Or would it?

Does Norman genuinely want to see a LIV Golf pro win Olympic gold on Sunday over one of his countrymen?

Apparently so it would seem.

There was no mention of Day or Lee in his message of Olympic Golf support, and that has not sat well with plenty of fans.

A number of golf fans have questioned how Norman can support 'business over country' at the Olympics, while others - most notably avid LIV Golf fans - think it's a fair call.

The Australian took to Instagram during the first round of the Olympics to post a selfie of him at Le Golf National.

Norman's caption read:

"Out supporting @livgolf_league players @jonrahm @joaco_niemann @davidpuigcorrius @adrian_meronk @mito_pereira @carlosortizgolf @abrahamancer @paris2024 @olympics @legolfnational Bring home the medals boys!!"

Norman's post split opinion amongst fans.

"Supporting your own bank balance," posted one.

"Business over country?" commented another.

"Why don’t you support the Aussies mate? Get over it, isn’t it your country?" commented one irate fan.

Another wrote: "What about JDay and Min Woo?"

"If only Australia had Cam Smith," pointed out one fan.

Not all fans were against Norman's message of support though, with one commenting: "Is there a more supportive commissioner in the world? I doubt it, well done."

Another wrote: "A true leader".

A day before the first round of the Olympic Golf Tournament, Norman took to Instagram to inform his followers he was watching the gymnastics.

Norman further reiterated his support for LIV Golf players with his caption:

"Watching perfection on the floor before watching perfection with @livgolf_league boys playing @olympics @paris2024 golf tomorrow."

Norman did, however, share a video of him on Wednesday at the swimming events where he commended the athletes for their efforts and also thanked the Australian team.

No doubt for the invite.

He posted a video with the caption:

"This is what sport is all about – train for years for this moment. Push harder than anyone else. Believe deeper than anyone else. These moments are very few and far between. Thanks to @ausolympicteam #brisbane2032."

Norman recently described the Olympics as "the pinnacle of sport".

He added: "It’s about pushing boundaries, striving for excellence, and representing your country with pride.

"Our players embody these values, and I’m here to support them every step of the way."
