Transgender golfer slammed with brutal (!) comments by rival ahead of US Women's Open

Transgender golfer Hailey Davidson has been compared by a fellow player to a 'castrated male dog' after securing an alternate spot in next week's US Women's Open in Pennsylvania.

Davidson, 30, narrowly missed out on earning a direct spot into the second ladies major of the season at Lancaster Country Club.

The Scottish-born golfer tied for third place in a 36-hole qualifier at Bradenton Country Club. 

But Davidson played her way into a three-way playoff for the final two alternate spots and then drained a 25-footer at the first extra hole to secure the first alternate spot in the 2024 US Women's Open. 

Davidson must now wait to see whether someone drops out of the US Women's Open in order for her to earn her place in the field that will comprise of all of the world's best LPGA Tour players. 

Davidson was banned from NXXT Golf Tour events earlier this season under a new gender policy announced on International Women's Day.

An NXXT statement concluded a decision was made in an effort to underscore the organisation's "commitment to maintaining the integrity of women's professional golf and ensuring fair competition."

However, the LPGA's inclusive gender policy, which has been adopted by the Epson Tour, Ladies European Tour, LET Access Series, and LPGA Professionals competitions, allows trans women to compete in women's events since the 'female at birth' requirement was dropped in 2010.

Davidson first underwent hormone treatments on 24 September 2015, and she then underwent gender reassignment surgery, which is a six-hour procedure required under the LPGA Tour's Gender Policy, in 2021.

Davidson took to Instagram to reveal her latest news about moving a step closer to compete in her first US Women's Open.

She posted a photo of her USGA first alternate letter with the following words: 

I may not have been able to play in any tournaments these last couple of months but that didn’t stop me from continuing to put in the work into my game every single day to be ready for any next opportunity I may have to compete. Now to cross my fingers and hope for the best!

No matter what, NEVER GIVE UP!

PS: I DO in fact have legal documentation from the USGA that allowed me to play in the first place so zero rules were broken as always.

After posting her latest update to her followers on social media, Davidson was instantly slammed by a fellow player who competed in the US Women's Open qualifier during an interview with OutKick's Mark Harris. 

The player chose to remain anonymous. 

"I am not in agreement with the LPGA and USGA. [I am] more worried about the future of daughters everywhere," said the player. 

"Every woman on the tour is working so hard to be on the tour and play golf for [a] living. Women’s sports are not a backup option for mediocre male athletes."

When pressed on whether it's fair for transgender golfers to compete in women's events, she replied with some harsh words: 

"It is not fair. There’s not any other way to explain it [other] than if you neuter a male dog, it’s still a male dog. We never call them [a] female dog. I believe if transgender golf is getting more attention, aka popular, then let’s do [a] trans open for them."

The anonymous player also recalled an incident during the qualifier where Davidson holed out from 40 feet and then celebrated with a 'male tone'. 

"Everyone was in shock and not a single person clapped," said the player.
