Tyrrell Hatton questions LIV Golf schedule on eve of The Open

Tyrrell Hatton has called into question the LIV Golf League schedule ahead of The Open following a solo third at LIV Golf Andalucia. 

Hatton, 32, carded rounds of 72, 68 and 69 at a testing Valderrama, formerly a regular stop on the European Tour and most famously the host venue of the 1997 Ryder Cup.

While the LIV Golf star was pleased with another solid performance on the breakaway Saudi league, Hatton does believe it would be far more beneficial for players if the Spanish venue was placed elsewhere on the schedule. 

That's because Hatton would prefer to be competing on a links course - just as they were on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour at the Genesis Scottish Open - a week before The Open.

Hatton is going in search of his maiden major title at this week's 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon. 

The Englishman arrives in Scotland as one of LIV Golf's lead hopes for the Claret Jug. 

He captured his first LIV Golf title in Nashville last month and he finished T5 when The Open was last staged at Royal Troon in 2016.

Hatton told reporters on Sunday: 

"I guess the one negative with this week [LIV Golf Andalucia], it's very different to what we're going to face next week at The Open. 

"Hopefully down the line, it'll be a case of if we're playing a links course the week before, that would be nice. 

"But you just go out there and try your best, and yeah, just try and take some momentum into it. We'll have a few days to get used to the conditions.

"Hopefully it stays dry for the week. But yeah, I think that's all we can hope for at this moment."

Hatton finished solo third at LIV Golf Andalucia and one shot shy of a playoff between Sergio Garcia and Anirban Lahiri.

Garcia ended up victorious on home soil as he captured his first title on LIV Golf.
